Abstract

A water-soluble fish attractant tablet has a hole through it so that it can be readily attached near a fishing hook. <IMAGE>

Description

FISHING ATTR & TANT This invention relates to a fish attractant for use in fishing.
It is quite common for anglers to throw ground bait into the water whilst they are trying to catch fish. The bait may indeed attract the fish, but only to the area where the bait is thrown. This is not necessarily the area where the fishing hook is located, and also the bait may be carried away from the hook by water currents.
According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided a perforate fish attractant tablet, which may be readily attracted to the fishing line using the perforation through the tablet.
According to a second aspect of the present invention there is provided a method of catching fish, comprising the steps of attaching a perforate fish attractant tablet according to any preceding claim to a fishing line adjacent a hook on the like by threading the line or a subsidiary line through the hole in the tablet and securing the tablet to that line, casting the line, and permitting the tablet to release fish attractant in the vicinity of the hook.
Reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a diagram of a fish attractant tablet; and Figures 2 to 5 are illustrations of the tablet of Figure 1 in use on fishing lines.
Referring to Figure 1, a fish attractant tablet 10 is illustrated with a hole 12 through the tablet. The tablet may be of any suitable shape or size, and may, for example, be cylindrical with a length of 6mm and a diameter of 10mum. The diameter of the hole need only be as wide as the fishing line on which it is to be used. The tablet may be any flavour, for example, tutti frutti, maggot, vanilla, luncheon meat, cornish cream, strawberry cream, aniseed, wasp grub, hemp, raspberry, etc., and is made of a hard, water-soluble material, so that the flavour is released when the tablet is placed in water, over a substantial time period, for example, of about an hour.
Referring to Figures 2 to 5, when the tablet is used it is threaded onto a fishing line 14 and held in the required position by a piece of dissolvable tape (not shown), of the type commonly used in angling. The position of the tablets depends on the type of angling being undertaken; various positions are shown as examples in the drawings.
Once the tablets have been threaded onto the line, and the line is cast, the tablets start to dissolve, thereby attracting the fish to be in the vicinity of the hook.

Claims (6)

1. A perforate fish attractant tablet.
2. A tablet as claimed in claim 1, and made of a substance which dissolves in water.
3. A tablet as claimed in claim 2, which is adapted to dissolve over a substantial period of time.
4. A perforate fish attractant tablet, substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
5. A method of catching fish, comprising the steps of attaching a perforate fish attractant tablet according to any preceding claim to a fishing line adjacent a hook on the like by threading the line or a subsidiary line through the hole in the tablet and securing the tablet to that line, casting the line, and permitting the tablet to release fish attractant in the vicinity of the hook.
6. A method of catching fish, substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
