Description

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a mobile telephone apparatus usable as a portable telephone.
A portable telephone of this type is connected through a radio channel to a base station, which in turn is connected with a telephone circuit, thereby enabling communication via a radio wave.
Fig. 1 is a block diagram showing a configuration of a conventional portable telephone.
In Fig. 1, a conventional portable telephone 31 comprises an antenna 32, a radio section 33 connected to the antenna 32, an audio circuit 34 connected to the radio section 33, a sound source 35 for generating a receiving sound and a microphone 36 for collecting a transmitting sound.
In the above-mentioned conventional apparatus, a modulation signal from a base station not shown is received by the antenna 32, demodulated by the radio section 33, subjected to level adjustment by the audio circuit 34, and pronounced by the sound source 35.
The sound collected by the microphone 36, on the other hand, is subjected to level adjustment by the audio circuit 34, after which a radio wave modulated by the radio section 33 is transmitted to the base station by the antenna 32. The sound source 35 and the microphone 36 are arranged at positions adapted to the human ear and mouth respectively of a user.
The function of a conventional portable telephone 31 described above can be met by having the sound source 35 and the microphone 36 set close to the human ear and mouth respectively.
This conventional portable telephone 31, however, poses a problem such that communication is made possible only by bringing the telephone set near to the user's face by using the user's own hand. That is, a user has to use the portable telephone 31, while always holding it by the user's own hand with the sound source 35 set near to the user's ear and the microphone 36 set near to the user's mouth. Thus, since one hand of the user is kept occupied, it is impossible for the user to use both hands for any other operation while making a telephone call.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to solve the above-mentioned problem of a conventional apparatus and to provide a mobile telephone apparatus which enables communication in a hand-free condition.
Another object of the present invention is to facilitate electric charging of a power supply of a mobile telephone apparatus.
In order to achieve the above-mentioned objects, the mobile telephone apparatus of the present invention is provided with a hand-free unit having an outside speaker and an outside microphone which is attachable to and detachable from a portable telephone which is connected through a radio channel to a base station which in turn is connected to a telephone circuit, thereby enabling communication via a radio wave, wherein a voice path from the portable telephone can be switched between the hand-free unit and the portable telephone. If the operator sets the voice path to the hand-free unit side by the operation of a switch, in the case where the portable telephone enters a communication state upon receipt of a voice signal, the outside speaker and the outside microphone are brought into operation.
As a result, the user is able to continue a communicating operation in a hand-free condition.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Fig. 1 is a block diagram schematically showing a construction of a conventional portable telephone.
Fig. 2 is a block diagram showing a mobile telephone apparatus according to a first embodiment of the present invention.
Fig. 3 is a block diagram showing a mobile telephone apparatus according to a second embodiment of the present invention.
In Figs. 2 and 3, identical component parts are designated by the same reference numerals respectively.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Fig. 2 is a block diagram showing a configuration of a mobile telephone apparatus according to one embodiment of the present invention.
In Fig. 2, the mobile telephone apparatus comprises a portable telephone 11 and a desk-top handfree unit 21.
The portable telephone 11 is composed of an antenna 12 for connection to a radio channel, a radio section 13 connected to the antenna 12 for supplying a transmission wave to the antenna 12 and demodulating a received wave from the antenna 12, an audio circuit 14 connected to the radio section 13, a sound source 15 connected to the audio circuit 14 for producing a received voice, a microphone 16 connected to the audio circuit 14 for collecting a transmitting voice, a control circuit 17 including a microcomputer for controlling the operation and switching of various parts, a keyboard 18 for inputting a dial number and other data, a receiving switch 19R, a transmission switch 19T, and a battery pack 20 for supplying electric power to various parts. The portable telephone 11 has connecting terminals Plot P11 and P12 which are adapted to supply electric power and to transfer a reception signal and a transmission signal, respectively.
The desk-top hand-free unit 21, which is adapted to be connected to the portable telephone 11, has connecting terminals P20, P21 and P22. When the desk-top hand-free unit 21 is coupled with the portable telephone 11, the connecting terminals P20, P21, P22 are connected to the connecting terminals P1,, Pull, P12 of the portable telephone 11, respectively. The desk-top hand-free unit 21 is composed of a transmission audio amplifier circuit 23 for amplifying a transmission voice signal from an outside microphone 22 and supplying the amplified transmission voice signal to the connecting terminal P,, a receiving audio amplifier circuit 24 for amplifying a reception signal from the connecting terminal P21, and an outside speaker 25 for generating a reception voice in response to an output signal from the receiving audio amplifier circuit 24. The transmission audio amplifier circuit 23 and the receiving audio amplifier circuit 24 are supplied with electric power through the connecting terminal P20 when the desk-top hand-free unit 21 is coupled with the portable telephone 11.
The portable telephone 11 is so constructed that the audio circuit 14 may be connected with the connecting terminal P11 or the sound source 15 by the switching of the receiving switch 19R or may be connected with the connecting terminal P12 or the microphone 16 by the switching of the transmission switch 19T.
The operation of the above-mentioned embodiment will be explained below.
In the case where the portable telephone 11 is used separately from the desk-top hand-free unit 21, the "portable" mode is selected by the keyboard 18. In this case, the control circuit 17 operates to switch the receiving switch 19R so as to connect the audio circuit 14 and the sound source 15 and to switch the transmission switch l9T so as to connect the audio circuit 14 and the microphone 16. A transmission voice of the user is collected by the microphone 16, and a transmission signal produced in the course including the transmission switch l9T, the audio circuit 14 and the radio section 13 is transmitted by way of a radio channel from the antenna 12 to the base station. The transmission signal is transferred to the other party through a normal telephone line from the base station.
A voice transmitted from the other party is sent to the base station through a telephone line, and then a transmission signal is sent from the base station to the antenna 12 through a radio channel. A radio wave received by the antenna 12 of the portable telephone 11 is demodulated in the radio section 13. Then, the demodulated reception signal is transferred through the audio circuit 14 and the receiving switch 19R and is reproduced as a voice at the sound source 15.
Thus, when the portable telephone 11 is used separately from the desk-top hand-free unit 21 in the above-mentioned manner, the portable telephone 11 is held in one hand with the sound source 15 and the microphone 16 set close to a user's ear and mouth, respectively.
On the other hand, when the portable telephone 11 is used in a hand-free condition, the portable telephone 11 is first coupled with the desk-top hand-free unit 21. In this case, the connecting terminals Plot P and P12 of the portable telephone 11 are connected respectively to the connecting terminals P20, P21 and Pn of the desk-top hand-free unit 21. Now, assume that the user has selected the hand-free mode by the operation of the keyboard 18 of the portable telephone 11. Then, when the portable telephone 11 has entered a communicating state, the receiving switch 19R and the transmission switch 19T switch the respective voice paths to the side of the desk-top hand-free unit 21 in accordance with an instruction from the control circuit 17.As a consequence, the receiving switch 19R connects the audio circuit 14 to the receiving audio amplifier circuit 24, and the transmission switch 19T connects the audio circuit 14 to the transmission audio amplifier circuit 23.
The desk-top hand-free unit 21 is supplied with electric power from the battery pack 20 of the portable telephone 11 to feed the transmission audio amplifier circuit 23 and the receiving audio amplifier circuit 24.
When a user intends to make telephone communication, the user inputs a voice into the outside microphone 22. The voice signal collected by the outside microphone 22 is amplified by the transmission audio amplifier circuit 23, transferred through the transmission switch 19T and the audio circuit 14, and modulated by the radio section 13. A transmission signal thus produced is transmitted to the base station by the antenna 12. Then, the user can have telephone communication with the other party through a telephone line from the base station.
On the other hand, a voice from the other party is transmitted through a telephone line to the base station, wherefrom it is transmitted on a radio wave to the antenna 12. The radio wave received by the antenna 12 is demodulated by the radio section 13, and the demodulated reception signal is transferred through the audio circuit 14 and the receiving switch 19R to the receiving audio amplifier circuit 24 where the received voice signal is amplified, and then the received voice is produced by the speaker 25. In this way, since the voice of the other party is produced by the speaker 25, it can be heard sufficiently even at a place apart by some distance from the desk-top hand-free unit 21.
Further, the outside microphone 22 can be used by being mounted on a microphone stand, by being attached onto the cloth of the user by a pin or the like, or by being arranged freely at any desired position, without being held by the user's hand.
As explained above, according to the present embodiment, the outside speaker 25 and the outside microphone 22 of the desk-top hand-free unit 21 may be used as desired by a user. It is also possible for a telephone user to make telephone communication in a handfree condition by adjusting positional relations of the outside speaker 25 and the outside microphone 22 as well as respective amplification factors of the transmission audio amplifier circuit 23 and the receiving audio amplifier circuit 24.
Fig. 3 is a block diagram showing another embodiment of the present invention. This embodiment uses an ac/dc power supply 26 as a power supply for the desk-top hand-free unit 21 in place of the battery pack 20 which feeds only the portable telephone 11, and it also has an electric charger 27 comprised in the desk-top hand-free unit 21. The configuration of the other component parts of the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 is identical with that of the respective corresponding component parts of the embodiment shown in Fig. 2.
In the embodiment shown in Fig. 3, the ac/dc power supply 26 is used only as a power supply for the desk-top hand-free unit 21, while the battery pack 20 is used only to feed the portable telephone 11. As a result, this embodiment has an advantage of making it possible to save current consumption of the battery pack 20 of the portable telephone 11.
At the same, by virtue of the provision of the electric charger 27 in the desk-top hand-free unit 21, when the portable telephone 11 is coupled with the desktop hand-free unit 21, the battery pack 20 of the portable telephone 11 can be charged by the electric charger 27.
The remaining operations of the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 are the same as those of the embodiment shown in Fig. 2.
It will thus be understood from the foregoing description of the embodiments of the present invention that the present invention has an advantage that a user can make telephone communication in a hand-free condition by providing a portable telephone with a hand-free unit so that the hand-free unit may be connectable to the portable telephone and by switching the portable telephone to the hand-free unit side as desired by the user.
