Abstract

A clamp assembly 10 has first and second parts 11, 12 having flat surfaces for engaging a wall 31 of a container. Bolts 26 engage units 27 non-rotatably located in recesses in part 11 to clamp the assembly. A bridge includes base 19 providing a bore for receipt of a stem 34 of a knob 33, which stem engages a nut non-rotatably mounted in the part 12. The end 35 of the stem 34 can releasably engage and clamp an elongate member 32 receivable preferably non-rotatably in a passage 16 defined by the bridge and base 13. <IMAGE>

Description

IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO CLAMP ASSEMBLIES This invention relates to clamp assemblies.
According to this invention a clamp assembly comprises first and second parts for mounting on opposite side of structure, means for holding the first and second parts together, the second part providing a passage for receiving an elongate member, and means mounted in the second part for releasably engaging the elongate member.
The releasably engaging means may comprise a rotatable knob having a stem engageable with the elongate member and engaging a nut mounted in a recess in the second part.
The structure may be a wall of a container. The passage may be part circular and part non-circular in cross section.
The means for holding may comprise threaded elements for extending through a base of the second part and co-operable with nuts mounted in the first part.
The invention may be performed in various ways and one specific embodiment with possible modifications will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig.l is an exploded perspective view of a clamp assembly; Fig.2 is a side view of a clamp holder part; Fig.3 is a plan view of Fig.2; Fig.4 is an end view of Fig.2; Fig.5 is a side view of a clamp back plate; Fig.6 is a plan view of Fig.5; and Fig.7 is an end view of Fig.5.
A clamp assembly 10 has two parts 11, 12 moulded of plastics. A clamp holder or bridge part 11 has a base 13 with a flat surface 14 on one side and on the other side a bridge structure 15 providing a bore or passage 16. parts of the bridge structure 15 are cut away at 17 leaving a central curved portion 18 with an outward circular boss 19 with a through bore 20.
A hexagon recess 21 is provided at the inner end of the bore 20 to accommodate a captive nut 22. There may be recesses in the surface 14 to reduce weight.
The base 13 is provided with two apertures 23 with countersunk regions 24 in receipt of the heads 25 of bolts or screws 26 extending through the apertures 23 to engage nuts 27 non-rotatably located in hexagon recesses 28 in the outer side of back plate 12 having a flat surface 30 facing the surface 14. The base 13 may have recesses in the surface 30 to reduce weight.
The base 13 has central aperture 50.
Thus the confronting flat surfaces 30, 14 can be brought to engage opposite sides of a wall 31 and the bolts or screws 26 tightened in the nuts 27 to mount the clamp assembly 10 on the wall 31, the bolts or screws 26 passing through apertures in the wall 31.
The bore 16 can receive, preferably nonrotatably, an elongate member 32. A rotatable knob 33 has a threaded stem 34 engaging in the nut 22 so that the inner end 35 of the stem 34 can be brought into and out of gripping relation with a member 32 which can thus be adjusted up and down in the clamp assembly. Strengthening ribs 40 are provided in the parts 11,12.
The bore 16 may be hexagon or, as shown, part octagonal part circular, or circular or other section.
As shown the member 32 is octagonal in section. The bore 16 may have the same cross section as the member 32.
The wall 31 may be part of a fisherman's seat box and the member 32 a support leg for the box.

Claims (9)

1. A clamp assembly comprising first and second parts for mounting on opposite sides of structure, means for holding the first and second parts together, the second part providing a passage for receiving an elongate member, and means mounted in the second part for releasably engaging the elongate member.
2. A clamp assembly as claimed in claim 1, in which the releasably engaging means comprises a rotatable knob having a stem engageable with the elongate member and engaging a nut mounted in a recess in the second part.
3. A clamp assembly as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2, in which the passage is part circular and part non-circular in cross-section.
4. A clamp assembly as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the means for holding comprises threaded elements for extending through a base of the second part and co-operable with nuts mounted in the first par.
5. A clamp assembly as claimed in any preceding claim, in which the first and second parts have confronting flat surfaces.
6. A clamp assembly substantially as hereinafter described with reference to and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
7. In combination structure, and first and second parts of a clamp assembly as claimed in any preceding claim on opposite sides of the structure.
8. A combination as claimed in claim 7, in which the structure is a wall of a container.
9. A combination as claimed in claim 7 or claim 8, including an elongate member releasably held in the passage.
