Abstract
A hinge for a toilet seat 42 and cover 43 which allows easy adjustment of the position of a mounting bracket 10 has a pivoting assembly 20 whose arms 27,28 for attachment to the seat and cover are pivotable with respect to a base 26 which is fixed to a cylindrical member 22 with a through hole passed through by a bolt 24 screwed into a hole 12 in the bracket. The underside of the bracket is formed with two blind holes 14 into one of which a stud 32 is selectively to attach the bracket to the toilet bowl 41.
Description
<Desc/Clms Page number 1>
HINGE FOR A TOILET SEAT AND COVER The present invention relates to a hinge for a toilet seat and cover, and more particularly to a hinge for a toilet seat and cover, which can easily adjust the position of a bracket attached to the pivoting assembly.
A conventional hinge for a toilet cover in accordance with the prior shown in Figs. 5 comprises a bracket (50), a pivoting assembly (60) and a stud (32). The bracket (50) is disc-shaped and comprises a through hole (5 1) defined near the periphery of the bracket (50) and two threaded blind holes (52) defined in the underside of the bracket (50). The pivoting assembly (60) comprises a pivotal base (62), two pivoting arins (66) and a supporting column (64). The pivoting arms (66) are pivotally connected to two sides of the pivotal base (62) and are respectively connected to a toilet seat cover (43) and a toilet seat (42). The supporting column (64) integrally extends up from the pivotal base (62), The supporting column (64) has an inner threaded hole corresponding to the through hole (5 1) in the bracket (50) so that a bolt can pass through the through hole (5 1) of the bracket (50) to screw into the inner threaded hole of the supporting column (64). The stud (3 2) can pass through the toilet (4 1 ) to screw into one of the threaded blind holes (52) in the bracket (50), and a nut (34) can screw onto the stud (32) to secure the bracket (50) together with a the pivoting assembly (60) to the toilet (41).
To secure the pivotal base (62) to the bracket (50), a bolt passes through the through hole (5 1) in the bracket (50) to screw into the pivoting assembly (60) supporting column (64). Afterward, the stud (32) is inserted through the toilet (4 1) to screw into one of the threaded blind holes (52) in the bracket (50), and the nut (34) is screw onto the stud (32) to secure the bracket (50) on the toilet (41).
The following drawbacks are found in the conventional hinge for a toilet cover. (a) The stud (3 2) which passes through underside of the toilet (4 1) to screw into
<Desc/Clms Page number 2>
the blind threaded hole (52) of the bracket (50) is not easy to align with the threaded blind hole (52) since the position of the blind threaded hole (52) is Mretarded by the toilet (4 1).
(b) If the threaded blind hole (52) in the bracket (50) does not align with the stud (32), it is necessary to loosen the bracket (50) together with the toilet seat (42) from the supporting column (64) of the pivoting assembly (60) and readjust the position of the bracket (50).
(c) If the supporting column (64) loosens from the bracket (50), to fixedly secure the column (64) onto the bracket (50) again is very complicated. The nut (34) must be removed to release the bracket (50). Then the supporting column (64) should be tightened on the bracket (50). The position of the bracket (50) must be readjusted to align the stud (32) with one of the threaded blind holes (52).
Because there are many sizes and configurations of toilets (4 1), a bracket (5 0) that can be adjusted to align the toilet seat (43) with the toilet (4 1) before the bracket (5 0) is secured to the toilet (4 1 ) is needed.
The present invention has arisen to mitigate and/or obviate the disadvantages of the conventional hinge of a toilet cover.
The objective of the present invention is to provide a hinge for a toilet cover, which can easily adjust the position of a bracket. To achieved the objective of the present invention, the bracket in accordance with the present invention has a threaded hole and a pivoting assembly and a hollow cylinder having a though hole corresponding to the threaded hole of the bracket allows a bolt to screw into the threaded hole.
Further benefits and advantages of the present invention will become apparent after a careful reading of the detailed description with appropriate reference to the accompanying drawings.

IN IHE DRAWINGS Fig. I is an exploded perspective view of the hinge for a toilet seat and cover in accordance with the present invention; Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the hinge for a toilet seat and cover in Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the hinge for a toilet seat and cover in Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is another top plan view of the hinge for a toilet seat and cover in Fig. 1; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of a conventional hinge for a toilet seat and cover. With reference to Figs. I and 2, the hinge for a toilet seat and cover in accordance with the present invention comprises a bracket (10), a pivoting assembly (20), a stud (32) and a nut (34).
The bracket (10) is disc-shaped. A threaded through hole (12) is defined near the periphery of the bracket (10) and two threaded blind holes (14) are defined on the underside of the bracket (10).
The pivoting assembly (20) comprises a hollow cylinder (22), a pivotal base (26) integrally formed with the cylinder and two pivotal arms (27, 28) pivotally mounted on the pivotal base (26). The cylinder (22) contains a through hole (222) which corresponds to the threaded through hole (12) in the bracket (10) to allow a bolt (24) to pass the through hole (222) and screw into the threaded blind hole (12). The pivoting arms (27, 28) are respectively attached to a toilet seat (42) and a toilet cover (43).
The stud (3 2) passes through the toilet (4 1 ) and screws into one of the threaded blind holes (14) on underside of the bracket (10), and the nut (34) screws onto the stud (32) to fixedly secure the bracket (10) to the toilet (41).
With reference to Figs 1, 3 and 4, when the hinge is installed, the bolt (24)
<Desc/Clms Page number 4>
passes through the through hole (222) in the cylinder (22) and screws into the threaded hole (12) in the bracket (10). Then the stud (32) is passed through the toilet (41) and screws into one of the threaded blind holes (14) in the bracket (10). Since toilet seats (42) are different sizes and may no align with all kinds of toilets (4 1), it is necessary to adjust the position of the bracket (10) relative to the toilet (4 1) to allow the toilet seat (42) to properly align with the toilet (41) before the stud (32) is screwed into the threaded blind hole (14). If the stud (32) does not align with the threaded blind hole (14), the bolt (24) holding the pivoting assembly (20) on the bracket (50) can be loosened to allow the bracket (10) to align the stud (32) to align with the hole through the toilet (41) and screw into the threaded blind hole (14). Therefore, it is easy to adjust the position of the bracket (10).
In addition, if the pivoting assembly (20) loosens from the bracket (10), the bolt (24) in through the pivoting assembly can directly tightened without completely removing the hinge from the toilet (4 1). This makes resecuring the toilet seat (42) to the toilet (41) unnecessary.
Although the invention has been explained in relation to its preferred embodiment, it is to be understood that many other possible modifications and variations can be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed.
