Abstract
225,007. Bolas, H., and Parnall, G. G. Sept. 27,1923. Propelling. - An engine of the radial fixedcylinder type and the front section of its cowling are carried by an engine plate of girder formation detachably connected to a rigid triangulated stay structure having pivotal connections with the fuselage of the craft. The plate is formed by sheets 7 and 8, spaced and braced by channel strips 9, 9, the sheet 7 being formed with an hexagonal opening 7, and the sheet 8, to which the crank case is bolted, with a circular opening 8. The strips 9 between the vertical edges of the sheets extend above and below the sheets and are provided near their ends with holes 10 to receive bolts 18. Each bolt passes through a lug on the front end of an inclined tubular stay 12 pivoted at its rear end to a bracket 13 on the fuselage, and is secured by a nut 19. The plate 8 is formed with slots 11 to accommodate the stays 12, the bottom of each slot being reinforced by a channel member 9. Two diagonal tubular struts 15 are provided, each pivoted at its upper end to the front portion of the corresponding stay 12 and at its lower end to the corresponding lower bracket 13, and a short strut 16 connects each strut 15 to the front portion of the corresponding lower stay 12. Additional bracing is provided by wires or cables 17.
