Abstract

A long term lawn aerator is an open ended tube, which has its outer surface perforated with circular holes or other shaped openings. The tube has sufficient wall thickness to resist side pressure from soil when positioned vertically into the surface of a lawn, and in this position will allow water and nutriments direct access to the grass root system. <IMAGE>

Description

LONG TERM LAWN AERATOR This invention relates to a long term lawn aerator Aeration is very benificial to grass lawns as it allows water and nutriments direct access to the root system in times of drought and helps to improve drainage in periods of wet weather.
Traditionally aeration is carried out using a garden fork to spike the lawn, or a hollow tine fork is used to remove small diameter cores.
Both of these methods are effective but are short lived as the holes that are produced very quickly close.
According to the present invention there is provided a long term lawn aerator which comprises of a hollow tube which is open ended with its outer surface perforated with holes.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 shows in perspective the hollow perforated tube Figure 2 shows the hollow tube in its position just below the lawn surface.
Referring to the drawing Figure 1 shows the aerator comprising a hollow tube with its surface perforated with holes.
In order to implant the tube into the lawn, a hole is made the same shape and size of the tube by removing a core of soil from the lawn.
Figure 2 shows the aerator positioned in the lawn and thus providing a long term opening in the surface of the lawn.
