Abstract

A device to assist practice golfers comprising three identical parts (1, 2, 3) which are each in the form of a stave with a longitudinal slot (6) therein. Each slot is capable of receiving another of the parts as a friction fit. In use, the tip (4) of one of the parts is stuck in the ground (5) and the other parts are arranged as illustrated. A golf ball (8) is located on the rim of an aperture (7) of the part (1) and the golfer views the golf ball through the aperture (7) in the part (3) and this causes the golfer to keep the head straight when teeing off. <IMAGE>

Description

GOLFING ACCESSORY This invention relates to a golfing accessory intended to assist golfers when they are taking practice shots and in particular has the aim of keeping the golfer's head straight when teeing off.
According to the present invention, there is provided a device to assist practice golfers, comprising a first part, a second part and a third part, the three parts being able to be joined such that the first and third parts are spaced from one another in use by the second part, the first part being able to be set on the ground and including means by which a golf ball can rest on it and the third part having an aperture through which a golfer can view the ball when it is resting on the first part with the third part fitted on the second part.
The three parts may be removably fitted together. For example, the second part can be slotted in both the first and third parts and may have a pointed tip remote from the third part and beyond the first part, which tip can secure the device in the ground.
All three parts may be substantially flat rather like a stave.
The means by which a golf ball can rest on the first part can comprise an aperture near one end of the first part.
The aperture in the third part through which the golf ball can be viewed can also be placed near the end of the third part. At least the first and third parts can be slotted so that the second part can be slotted in them as a friction fit.
The three parts may be three identical parts with any one or more of the abovementioned features. The three parts may be made of wood or plastics material.
For a better understanding of the invention and to show how the same may be carried into effect, reference will now be made, by way of example, to the accompanying drawing, in which: Figure 1 is a diagrammatic perspective view of a device to assist practice golfers, and Figure 2 is a front view of one of the parts of the device shown in Figure 1.
The device as shown comprises a first part 1, a second part 2 and a third part 3, which are substantially identical to one another. Each part is flat and elongate and has a pointed end 4 so that any one of them can be stuck in the ground 5.
Each part has a central, longitudinally-extending slot 6, by means of which one of the parts, in the example shown, the part 2, can be slotted in as a friction fit through the slots 6 of the parts 1 and 3 to space the parts 1 and 3 apart from one another.
The three parts are also provided with an aperture 7 adjacent the end thereof remote from the pointed end 4.
The apertures can be 18-22 mm diameter and the parts can be approximately 24 cm in length.
When set up as shown, the device is such that the part 2 is stuck in the ground with the part 1 resting flat on the surface of the ground and the part 3 spaced above it with the part 2 extending at an angle to the vertical and the apertures 7 in the parts 1 and 3 substantially in alignment. A golf ball 8 is located on the rim of the aperture 7 of the part 1 and the golfer views the golf ball 8 through the aperture 7 in the part 3 and this causes the golfer to keep the head straight when teeing off.
Alternatively, the part 3 can be pushed into the slot 6 of the part 2 so that the part 3 points in the direction of the shot to assist in alignment of the shot.
It will be appreciated that the device can be manufactured and sold as a kit of three identical parts which can easily be dismantled for storage and transport.
