Abstract

A coupling arrangement between two structures, namely a housing 8 containing a motor, gearing 5 and a drive shaft 3, and a drive housing 1 containing a pulley wheel 2 supported on the shaft 3, comprises mutually engaging toothed members concentrically surrounding the drive shaft 3. One of the members comprises an outer ring 10 of deformable material provided with internal teeth 9 meshing with external teeth 8 formed on an annular projection 7 of housing 6. The outer ring 10, which is connected to the drive housing 1, is surrounded by a tension band 15. <IMAGE>

Description

, _ ' vw- c_ 2, ' 7 1, -51 _., -- - --- j ---.
-I- A TORQUE-TRANSMITTING COUPLING The invention relates to a torque-transmitting coupling between a drive motor, provided with a drive shaft, and a carrier. a machine or the like to which the drive motor is attached, as known from DE-PS 29 13 486. and which prevents the drive from rotating about the driven shaft of the gear relative to the carrier. In this torque-transmitting coupling bending moments are introduced into the gear or its housing. In manytypes of installation such a torquetransmitting coupling also constitutes an inconveniently projecting component. A further disadvantage consists in that it is not possible to change the rotary position of the drive motor relative to the machine.
Therefore the aim of the invention is to design a torquetransmitting coupling in such manner that no bending moments or transverse forces are introduced in:o the drive shaft and the torque-transmitting coupling does not project inconveniently. A finely stepped rotary position orientation of the drive, relative to the carrier, is also to be facilitated. This aim is fulfilled by a flange which concentrically surrounds the drive shaft and which is formed by mutually engaging toothed structures, where an outer ring provided with an inwardly toothed structure is produced from a deformable material. The use of a deformable material facilitates an inter-engaging connection which, due to the deformability of the outer ring, is free from play and prevents disengagement of the teeth.
In a further development of the invention a tension band is positioned around the toothed region of the deformable outer ring, which is preferably made of synthetic resin, where the tension band is prevented from slipping off the outer ring by means of at least one securing attachment. The synthetic resin outer ring is provided with a flange by which it is at least partially embraced and which comprises bores and screws for attachment to a wall, which is 2 preferably the wall of a support. head carrier or the like. The inner ring of the toothed structure is then formed by an annular attachment of a gear housing, provided with an outer toothed structure.
An exemplary embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the drawings and explained in detail below. In the drawings:
Figure 1 Is a cross-section through a toothed structure.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a drive housing with a toothed ring and tension band,! Figure 3 is an axial view of the synthetic resin outer ring; Figure 4 is a part section in the direction of arrow IV of Figure 3; and Figure 5 is a part section in the direction of arrow V of Figure 3.
Referring to the Figures, in a drive housing I a wheel 2 is supported by a shaft 3 and bearings 4. The shaft 3 leads to a gear 5, the housing 6 of which is flange-attached to a motor (not shown). The gear 5 is supported and centred by the shaft 3.
To transmit torque from the motor to the drive housing, the end side of the housing 6 comprises an annular projection 7 with a radially outwardly extending toothed structure 8 which engages into a radially inwardly projecting toothed structure 9 of a deformable 9 synthetic resin outer ring 10. The synthetic resin outer ring 10 contains, in a flange 11, bores 12 to accept screws 14 for attachment to the drive housing 1. A tension band 15 is positioned around the deformable synthetic resin outer ring 10, which tension band is prevented from slipping off the synthetic resin outer ring 10 by means of radial securing projections 13.
