Abstract

The arrangement comprises a double-walled tank assembly 1 and water pipes 18, 41. The pump motor 2 is installed inside the inner wall of the tank. The outer wall of the tank has an opening 17 connected by water pipe 18 to the opening 35 on the pump housing. When the motor is in operation, the motor drives the blades to pump the water upward to the space area 13 between the inner and outer walls of the tank, the motor inside the inner wall of the tank is thus cooled by the water pumped up by blades so that the temperature of the motor is reduced to prevent it from producing noise and reducing corrosion. <IMAGE>

Description

TITLE: AN AGUARIUM WATER PUMP BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION This invention relates to an improved aquarium water pump which corrects the defects of conventional aquarium water pumps, with respect to poor cooling, noisy, and easy to get corrosive. The water pump of this invention can pump the water from the aquarium to the water filter tank through the water pipe and the space between the inner and outer walls of the tank, thereby keeping the motor in a cooling condition so as to prolong the service life of the motor.
In recent years, people tend to pay more attention to house decorations to enrich their life by set-up of aquariums. In order to better the breeding environment, there are more and more aquarium accessories have been developed. At this moment, the common accessories used for aquarium are water filter, oxygen dispenser and water pump. The purpose of this water pump is to pump the water from the aquarium after the water is filtered. The water pump manufactured in the old days are easy to get hot which has caused the water pump a short service life. Also the conventional type water pump is easy to get corrosive and its production cost is higher. For above, manufacturer designed a kind of water pump as shown in Fig. 4.
This kind of pump has only one tank (10?. Inside the tank (10), there is a motor installed. The extended portion of the motor axis is connected with a water drawing blade assembly (20), by which the water is pumped upward. By the side of blade assembly (20), there is a water pipe (30) connected to the water filter (40). Also, there is copper tube (50) from the top of the blades going around outside the tank (10) and connected to water filter (40). When water is pumped up by the blades, part of the water goes through the copper tube(50) to cool the motor. While this water pump is equipped with water cooling device, however, the cooling water is too small in amount to provide a desired cooling effect for the high temperature motor. Moreover, since the motor is located inside of the tank, the cooling water in the copper tube can not directly cool the motor.
For above reasons, the manufacturer designed another kind of water pump as shown in Fig. D. This water pump is designed to have the copper tube (50) go into the tank (10) and go around the outer space (60) of the tank (10), thus to enable the water directly to contact the motor (701 to provide the motor with a better cooling. Generally, this kind of water pump is better, but owing to the water amount brought into the space (60) by the small diameter, copper tube (50) is too small to effectively cool the motor (70) and also the water stays in the space (60) a longer time, thus the water will be heated by the high temperature generated and more decrease the cooling efficiency.
For above reasons, this invention has proposed a water pump which has a double walled tank with opening on the outer wall of the tank to connect the opening on the side of the blade assembly by a water pipe. The water pumped up by the blade assembly will all go through the pipe to the outer space of the tank to provide motor with sufficient cooling by this big amount water to prevent motor from being over heated during operation to prolong the service life of the motor.
Another advantage of this invention is to absorb the noise the motor produced durin operation by providing water around the motor.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the aquarium water pump in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is an exploded view of the aquarium water pump of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a section view of the aquarium water pump of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 shows a prior art aquarium water pump with a filter; and Fig. D shows another prior art aquarium water pump with a filter.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to Figs. 1 and 3, there is shown the aquarium water pump of this invention which consists of a double walled tank 1, a connecting cylinder 3 and a blade seat 34. The double walled tank 1 is made of plastic material and molded in one piece with inner space 11 and outer space 13. The inner top of the inner space 11 is shaped into grasping fringe 12. The bottom of outer space 13 is sealed. An opening 17 is disposed on one side of the outer wall of the tank.
Upper cover 19 is a hollow type in cap-shape with an opening 191 on one side of the top. The cover 19 is sealed on the top of the tank 1 by high frequency sealing device, and a water pipe 41 is designed to connect the opening 191 and the water filter 4.
The bottom cover 14 is shaped with upward protuberant fringe 141. The center area on the top of the bottom cover is shaped with lower grasping fringe 16 to secure the motor 2 to the inner space 11 of the tank 1 to enable the top of the motor 2 to be secured to the upper grasping fringe 12, then to secure the protuberant fringe 141 of the bottom cover 14 to the bottom of the double walled tank 1 to enable the bottom of the motor 2 to be grasped by the lower grasping fringe 16, and to fasten the bottom cover 14 and double walled tank 1 by bolt 15, so to secure the motor 2 inside the double walled tank 1. Connecting cylinder 3 is made of plastic material of one-piece molded. On the top of the cylinder, there is a upper mounting base 31 to fasten to the bottom of the bottom cover 14 of the tank 1 by bolt 32 and allow motor axis 21 of the motor 2 inserted through the connecting cylinder 3 and lower mounting base 33, and have the motor axis 21 secured to the blade assembly 34.
The blade assembly 34 is installed at the bottom end of the lower mounting base 33 under the bottom end of the connecting cylinder 3 by means of a grasping device. The bottom of the blade assembly 34 is designed as a sucking pipe 36, on which a wire guard cover 37 is attached to prevent breedings from being sucked into the pipe when the blades 22 rotates. There is a opening 35 designed at the side of the blade assembly 34. Finally, using a pipe 18 to connect the opening 17 and opening 35 to complete the Fig. 1.
Refer now to Fig. 3. When motor is in operation, the motor axis will driven the blades 22 and at same time water will be pumped up by the drawing force created by the motion of the turning blades 22. Also, by rotatin force of blades 22, the pumped water will be enforced to go from opening 35 through the pipe 18 and opening 17 and flow into the outer space of tank 1.
When outer space is full, the spilled water will go into the water filter through the upper opening 191 and the water pipe 14.
This invention is capable of pumping the water all the way in full amount to the outer space 13 of the tank 1 and then flowing into the water filter 4. In comparison with the conventional aquarium water pumps, this innovated water pump has the following specially advantages: 1. Better cooling efficiency: As all the water pumped will go into the filter through the outer space thus to provide enough cooling water for the high temperature motor. Also, because the water pipe diameter is big enough, which will enable the water to stay only for very short time at the outer space and leaves the outer space for water filter quickly to prevent cooling water from getting hot and reducing cooling efficiency. The cooling efficiency rate is 90%, it will certainly prolong the service life of motors.
2. Corrosion and dust proof: As the motor is installed inside a sealed enclosure and insulated from the outside air, dirty and moisture, the possibility of damage of motor can be reduced to the minimum.
3. Reduction of noise: As the motor is located inside the inner space of the double walled tank with cooling water around wall of the inner space, the noise generated by the motor can be absorbed by the cooling water.
From the explanation above, the aquarium water pump of this invention has advantages in solving the problems of the conventional aquarium water pump and in addition has the advantage of noise reduction and corrosion proof.
