Abstract

The accelerometer of the invention comprises for each axis of measurement (x, y, z) a cylinder and piston device driven by a mass which is movable in the direction of the axis under consideration, applying a hydrostatic stress to an optical fibre (5, 6, 7). Using an interferometer (10), the birefraction variations induced by the deformations of the fibre owing to the stress are measured.
