224,277. Golby, F. W., (Saranac Automatic Machine Corporation). Aug. 2, 1923. Boxes formed from special blanks; machines for making boxes. Ice-cream pails or boxes and similar receptacles are made from a web or strip of paper or the like which is converted into rectangular blanks each having a rectangular bottom section 9, Fig. 8, disposed obliquely to the longitudinal edges of the web, the blanks being cut off at right-angles to the web and finally formed into receptacles; the edges 19. 20, 21 of the blank are consequently disposed transversely of and parallel with the length of the web and the web is nar. rower than would be the case if the sections 9 were disposed with their edges transversely of and parallel with the length of the web. The web may be printed obliquely before entering the blanking-press, the web being fed automatically from a reel 6, Fig. 2, through the printing-press 3 and blanking-press 10 to the cutting-device 17 from which the separated blanks pass to the forming-machine 15 where they are formed into receptacles, preferably having overlapping twoply flaps 41, 42, Fig. 9, at each side thereof fastened together by a bail-shared wire handle 16<1> which is inserted through five thicknesses of paper, at each side of the pail as described in Specification 225,594. The blanks enter the forming-machine cornerwise, the forming-machine being either arranged at an angle to the web and blanking-press as shown or in line therewith, in which case the blank is turned through an angle before entering the forming-machine.
