Description

TRACK MNK COMPRESSOR FOR A TRACKED VEHICLE The present invention relates to a track compressor for clamping together the track links of a tracked vehicle such as a tank.
The compressor of the invention has a simple construction and, during use, is highly suitable for removing and fitting this type of track.
The actual construction of the compressor makes it possible to change track link pins, thereby avoiding accidents and affording a saving in manpower and any type of additional tools.
According to the invention there is provided a track compressor for use in the fitting and removal of the corresponding track link pin disposed between its two neighbouring track links of a track for a tracked vehicle, said compressor consisting of a hydraulic ram cylinder closed at one of its ends and having fixed inside the other end a guide sleeve for the ram piston rod; wherein one end of said ram piston rod projects from the ram cylinder and has fitted thereon the support for a lug to position one of the links wherein the ram cylinder has hydraulic fluid inlet and outlet means for regulating the position of the ram piston ånd hence the displacesent of said lug, carried by the piston rod; and wherein the closed end of the ram cylinder includes means defining the fixed lug, said lug defining means being connected to the body of the ram cylinder by a part which is fixed at one end to an internally threaded end of the body of the ram cylinder by an enlarged bore thereof and is fixed at its other end to said lug defining means by way of an internal axial screw.
The fixing of said support for the lug to the piston rod is effected by means of a screw whose head is recessed in the support and whose shank is threaded in an axially extending blind hole at the end of the piston rod.
A hydraulic seal having an external diameter which is approximately equal to that of the inside of the ram cylinder is fitted on the piston rod. This seal abuts against the free inner end of the guide sleeve.
Inside the ram cylinder and in a circumferential recess in the vicinity of said hydraulic seal, is disposed a retaining clip or Seeger ring, in the vicinity of the hydraulic fluid inlet.
On the opposite end of the piston rod, on a cylindrical stub, there is fitted the hydraulic piston with a hydraulic seal and a support with a Teflon (R.T.M.) strip.
At this end, the piston rod has an axially threaded blind hole.
The fixing together of the piston, the seal and the piston support coupling results from engagement of a screw in the threaded blind hole.
There may be a threaded cylindrical enlarged bore in the inner end zone of the ram cylinder, to receive said part which is an externally threaded cylindrical sleeve-like part having a reduced diameter end emerging from the free end of the ram cylinder to support said part carrying the fixed lug, and mounted on the reduced diameter end by means of a screw which is threaded in an axial threaded hole in said reduced diameter end.
When the compressor is open, the ram has an inner chamber included between the end of the piston and the hydraulic seal which is mounted on the piston rod and abuts the end of the guide sleeve.
The two positions of the compressor are the following: One of them is when the movable lug, fitted on the end of the piston rod, is displaced manually to reach maximum separation from the fixed lug.
In this position, the piston abuts against the Seeger ring or clip.
When it is desired to join the track, hydraulic fluid is introduced into the cylinder under a correspondingly increased pressure. This pressure causes the piston to be displaced to bring the movable lug closer to the fixed lug, at which moment the track ends are brought together for insertion of the pin.
In order to facilitate understanding of not only the construction, but also the actual use of the compressor of the invention, reference is made below to one practical embodiment thereof, given merely by way of example and not in any way limiting the invention, with reference to the accompanying sectioned drawing. The e drawing shows a compressor 1 consisting of a hydraulic cylinder 2 which comprises the cylinder body 3 and an axial central piston rod 4 having at one end a piston 5 fitted on a cylindrical turned down end 6 of the rod 4.
A collar seal 7, held in position by a piston body 8 having a further seal 9 of Teflon (R.T.M.), is fitted on the piston 5.
All these elements which define the body of the piston 5 are held together by means of a screw 10 whose shank is threaded in a blind hole 11 extending axially along the cylindrical turned down end 6.
The body of the ram cylinder 3 has, at the end corresponding to the piston 5 a threaded cylindrical inner enlarged bore portion 12 in which is threaded a sleeve-like part 13 which has an internal recess 14 enclosing the head 15 of the screw 10. The same sleeve 13 has an emerging axially extending end portion 15a of smaller diameter which has an internal thread 16 which interacts in the removable fixing of a closing part 17 by means of a screw 18. The closing part 17 includes the fixed lug 18 of the compressor 1.
At its other end, the cylinder 3 has a guide sleeve 18a for the piston 4, this sleeve 18g being fixed by means of an external screw thread 19 to the threaded inner end zone 20 of the cylinder body 3.
Similarly, the piston rod 4 is fitted with a hydraulic collar seal 21 which abuts against the sleeve 18a and blocks the passage of the hydraulic oil, the collar seal 21 being positioned by means of a Seeger ring or clip 22 disposed in an inner circumferential recess 23 in the bore of the cylinder 3.
At this end the body of the cylinder has a scraper 24 whose function is to continuously wipe clean the piston rod.
The rod 4 emerging from the scraper is fitted with a part 25 defining the other lug 26 and fixed to the rod by means of a screw 27 threaded in the tapped axial blind hole 28 in the end of the rod.
The hydraulic oil inlet 29 is in the vicinity of the Seeger ring or clip 22.
