Abstract

224,213. Etablissements Baudet, Donon, et Roussel. Nov. 3, 1923, [Convention date]. Void [Published under Sect. 91 of the Act]. Force - transmitting mechanism; brake beams; compensating for wear. -In vehicles having the space between the frame and the ground occupied by driving - mechanism, such, for instance, as railway vehicles driven by internal-combustion engines, the transmitting- mechanism for actuating brake shoes 18, 19, 18<1>, 19<1> comprises rods and links 15 - - 17, 25, 26 at each side of the vehicle, the links 15 being attached to a draw-bar 12, Fig. 3, which is connected to the piston rod 4 of a fluid-pressure brake cylinder by links and levers 11, 7 - - 5. Adjustment of the rigging for wear of the brake shoes may be effected by means of a turnbuckle 10 threaded on the two parts of the rod 6, and bv varying the position of the lever 7 with respect to its pivot 8. The beams 29, 30 connecting pairs of brake shoes may be curved if necessary to clear the driving-mechanism, and the eye by which each link 15 is mounted at the end of the rod 12 has its inside faces flared towards the ends so that the link may rock on its pivot. As shown in Fig. 3, the lever 5 is connected bv a link 35 to a second lever 36, which actuates similar brake rigging for a second pair of wheels, and if the vehicle has four sets of wheels each link 11 actuates a bar 12; and a second similar bar through a vertically-disposed balancing-bar and suitable links. If any of the axles are not encumbered by driving-mechanism, the brakes on them may be actuated in the usual manner by a single system of rod and link gear arranged centrally of the vehicle. By the provision of a transverse shaft 43, Fig. 6, on the threaded part 44 of which works a nut 45 which is connected by a bell-crank lever 48 and link 50 to the levers, the driver may be given independent manual control of the brakes, chains being passed round sprockets 52, 53 and sprockets which may be actuated by a hand-wheel under the control of the driver.
