Abstract

A mop wringer comprises a container (1) having an open top of elongate shape, a fixed roller (2) at one end of said open top, a movable roller (3) biased to a position adjacent the fixed roller and a lever (5) for moving the movable roller away from the fixed roller to allow insertion of a mop and for pressing the movable roller towards the fixed roller after insertion of the mop. The mop wringer is of very simple construction. The rollers when adjacent said one end leave the open top of the container substantially unobstructed so that the container can be used for other purposes. <IMAGE>

Description

MOP WRINGE The present invention relates to mop wringers of the type comprising a liquid container having an open top, a pair of rollers above the open top for squeezing a mop, and a roller mechanism for causing relative movement of the rollers.
Mop wringers of the type mentioned above have been well-known for many yea and are described in United Kingdom Patent Specification No. 1,434,169 United States Patent Specification No.
4,716,619 and United States Patent specification No. 4,906,339 as well as in many other documents.
The sop wringers mentioned above generally suffer from the disadvantage tut at tha roller mechanism tends to be relatively complex and therefore expensive and unsuitable for the cheaper end of the market, in particular for domestic use. The mop wringers mentioned above also generally suffer from the disadvantage that the rollers and roller mechanism ton8 to Obstruct te open top of the container so that the container is awkward to use in a non-wrinsing mode, for example when washing the floor by band.
An object of the present invention is to provide 8 very simple mop wringer of the type described, which can be wass produced inexpensively, and which is convenient to use for other purposes besides mop wringing.
The invention provides mop wringer comprising a container for liquid having an open top of generally elongated shape, a first roller at one end of the open top, a second roller mounted on a pivotable support frame so as to be movable between a first position adjacent thQ first roller so as to leave the open top substantially unobstructed, and a second position spaced apart from the first roller to allow insertion of a mop between the! rollers, biasing means for biasing the support frame and second roller to the first position, and. a foot operable lever associated with the pivotable support frame for moving the second roller between the two positions.
The invention will now be described tore particularly with ref orence to the accompanying drawing which shows, by way ob example only, a perspective view of one particular construction of lop wringer according to the invention.
The mop wringer comprises a container, bucket or the like I, a first roller 2 mounted in a fixed position at one end of the open top of the container, a second roller 3 mounted on a pivotable support frame 4 so as to be movable between a first position as shown in full lines iti the drawing, and a second position as shown in dashed lines in the drawing, and a foot operable lever 5.
when the mop wringer is not in use as a mop wringer, the weight of lever 5 biases the support frame 4 and the second roller 3 to the first position in which the open top of the container is left substantially unobstructed and Qé container may be used for any desired purpose.
To use the mop wringer to squeeze a mop, the user puts the toe of his fcot under the lever 5 and tips the lever upwardly the:reby moving the second roller 3 to the second position. with his foot still under the lever 5 the user inserts the mop (not shown) between the two rollers 2, 3. The user then removes his foot and the second ro:Ller 3 automatically swings back to the first position so that the mop is engaged between the two rollers 2, 3. Finally, the user puts his oot on top of the lever 5 and presses downwardly to squeeze the mop between the rollers 2, 3, meanwhile pulling the mop gradually upwardly.
