Abstract

To prevent fish escaping from a keep not a mesh sleeve 1 is provided secured by elastic 3 about the mouth ring of the net so as to drop down inside the net. Weights 6 may be attached to the lower end of the sleeve to maintain good access to the net if the flow of water is strong. <IMAGE>

Description

ANGLERS REEPNET ACCESSORY This invention relates to an anglers keepnet accessory to prevent fish which have been placed in the keepnet from escaping by jumping out through the aperture at the top of the keepnet.
It is a well known fact that many anglers have lost fish from their keepnet especially when used in running water.
The keepnet is either pegged outstretched or the flow of the river will outstretch the keepnet to give the fish the maximum amount of space. This forms a tunnel in which the fish may swim and jump out of the aperture at the top of the keepnet. Many fishing matches are held in this and other countries and fish lost in this manner is a disaster to the angler.
According to the presented invention there is provided an accessory to the standard anglers keepnet in the form of a nylon fibre mesh tube of net which will be secured around the aperture at the top of the keepnet with an elasticated strip. The net will then hang inside the keepnet with the bottom below the water level thus preventing the fish from escaping. The bottom of the net is cut sloping towards the end of the keepnet unhindered. The bottom of the net may be weighted if necessary.if the current is exceptionally strong. The net is easily removed from the keepnet at the end of the session or match for weighing purposes.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: FIG.1 Shows the net components and seams.
FIG.2 Shows in perspective an anglers keepnet with the invention in use.
Referring to the drawing in FIG.1 the keepnet accessory comprises of a tube of nylon fibre mesh netting (1) turned over at one end and machine seamed to form a tuck (2) to enable an elasticated strip (3) to be threaded through. A gap is left in the tuck and a seam sown to form a loop (4) to allow unrestricted attachment where the keepnet fixes to the bank stick. The bottom of the net is shaped (5) with a slope towards the end of the keepnet to allow unrestricted access. The bottom of the keepnet accessory may also be weighted (6) if required to maintain good access if the flow of water is strong.
Referring to the drawing in FIG.2. The elasticated top (3) of the accessory net is folded over the top ring (7) of the keepnet, with the bank stick attachment (8) fitted through the loop (4) sown in the top of the net see FIG. 2 detail A.
The elastic in the top of the net is of slightly smaller diameter than the top ring (7) of the keepnet and therefore holds the top of the accessory net in place. The accessory net (1) then fits inside the keepnet with shaped bottom (5) below the water surface.
The elasticated top may be adjusted in length to suit several diameter keepnet sizes.

Claims (1)

  1. (1) A keepnet'accessory comprising of a nylon fibre mesh tube with sloping cut bottom aperture and elasticated top aperture. The adjustable elastic strip is contained within a tuck formed at the top aperture and a seamed loop is provided to allow unrestricted keepnet attachment.
    (2) A keepnet accessory substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawing.
Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows (1) A keepnet accessory of a nylon fibre mesh tube withadustable top aperture and sloping cut bottom aperture, which closes shut during use due to the flow of water, or by the adjustment of the top ring of the keepnet.
    (2) A keepnet accessory substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 and 2 of the accompanying drawing.
