Abstract
The bifold door has two folding sections 10 hinged horizontally in the centre 12 and top 14 the bottom of the door being held in a track arrangement 16. As the bottom of the door is raised vertically by one or more hydraulic rams the centre of the door hinges outwards thus opening the door and providing a canopy from the building to which it is attached. <IMAGE>
Description
HYDRAULICALLY OPERATED BIFOLD DOOR
This invention relates to a hydratlically operated folding door,
Doors are wel, tnc,wn and need little explanation.
However, many large doors have a lot of moving parts some of which can be darluerous if they +ail whilst the door is being operated.
The Difold door has Sew moving parts accompanied by a reduced manufacturing expense due to a simple twin section design and hydraulic operation which securely locks the door in any position. In addition the door forms a canopy from the building to which it is attached when in the raised position.
According to the present invention there is provided a Difold door comprising two folding sections hinged horizontally in the centre and top, the bottom of the door being held in a track arrangement.
As the door is raised vertically by means of one or more hydraulic rams the door hinges outwards thus opening the door to provide a canopy in the fully raised position.
R specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure 1 shows the back view in the closed position.
Figure 2 shows the top view in the closed position without the track arrangement.
Figure 3 shows the side view in the closed position without the track arrangement.
Figure 4 shows the side view in the open position
Figure 5 illustrates the door in 4 positions without the track arrangement.
Figure 6 illuctrates a perspective view from front5 above and one side.
Referring to the drawings the bifold door comprises of two folding sections 10 hinged horizontally in the middle 12 and top i4 the bottom of the door treing held in a track arrangement 16 by means of ULt~'.e rollers 18 the door is raised or lowered by one or more hydraulic rams 20.
In order to raise the door from the fully closed position as shown in Fig 1 (bacK view) and Fig 3 (side view) the hydraulic rams 20 retract pulling the wheels or rollers 18 at the bottom of the door up the tracks 16 hinging at points 12, 14 and 18 to its fully raised position as shown in Fig 4.
In order to close the door the operation is carried out in reverse sequence.
Various stages of operation are illustrated in Fig 5.
Figure 6 illustrates the door from a perspective view form front, above and one side showing the door in a nearly open state.
The reinforcing brace near the base of the door needed to help maintain the doors rigidity is shown in Fig 2.
Claims (3)
1 1 bifold door comprising two folding sections hinged horizontally in the centre and top, the bottom of the door being held in a track arrangement. As the door is raised vertically by means of one or more hydraulic rams the door hinges outwards thus opening the door and providing a canopy in the fully raised position.
2 A bifold door as claimed in Claim 1 wherein guide means are provided by two vertical guides wherein travel the wheels or rollers fixed to the bottom corners of the door.
3 A bidold door as substantially as described herein with reference to Figures 1-6 of the accompanying drawings.
