Abstract

224,041. Clarke, A. G. S. Sept. 13, 1923. Bending.-The wood to be bent, after being steamed, is fitted between shoes 20, 21 on a flexible steel plate 22, and one end with the plate is then clamped at 25 to a wooden former 6 which slides on a spindle 1 rotated by means of worm gearing 7. As the former rotates, the pressers 19 are successively adjusted, by means of clamps 13 on racks 12, with final screw adjustment 17. When the ends of the steel plate meet they are connected by lugs 27 and the bent wood removed from the former. Helical or spiral bending may be similarly performed. For elliptical or oval bending suitably shaped adapters are used on the former.
