Abstract

The Hitching Aid is a prefabricated steel plate 1 covered in an electro-static sprayed polyester coating, utilising a standard three tonne ratchet fitted into slot 3 and a two metre length of nylon webbing with a ball at the free end. The central belt is for an in-line draw to the ball hitch of the towing vehicle, and the other two are for angled hitching, that is, where the towing vehicle is not in-line with the towed vehicle. The Hitching Aid is fitted to the towing vehicle by slackening the existing ball hitch mounting bolts, slotting the base plate behind the bail hitch by engaging the slots 2 and re-tightening the ball hitch mounting belts. <IMAGE>

Description

HITCHING AID MARK I The Hitching Aid Mark I (I), consists of a base plate of six millimetre thick steel with three high tensile steel bolts fitted into the top of the base plate. The base plate is finished in an electro-static sprayed polyester coating.
The Hitching Aid Mark I enables a standard three tonne lashing ratchet fitted with a two metre length of twenty five millimetre nylon webbing at the free end of which is a fifty millimetre diameter ball, to draw any towed vehicle fitted with a fifty millimetre towing socket up to the ball hitch of the towing vehicle.
The Hitching Aid Mark I is fitted by engaging the two slots (2) behind the existing ball hitch securing bolts of the towing vehicle.
The standard three tonne lashing ratchet is fitted into the ratchet slot (3) and is secured by a small wing nut fitted into the slot (4).
The nylon webbing is positioned around the central bolt (5), and the free end with the ball attached is inserted into the towing socket of the towed vehicle.
The bolts (6 & 7 ) enable the towed vehicle to be drawn from an offset position.
HITCHING AID MARK I.
The Hitching Aid Mark I is a pre-fabricated steel plate covered in an electrostatic sprayed polyester coating, utilising a standard three tonne lashing ratchet and a length of two metre nylon webbing with a ball at the free end.
The central bolt is for an in-line draw to the ball hitch of the towing vehicle, and the other two are for angled hitching, that is, where the towing vehicle is not in-line with the towed vehicle.
The Hitching Aid Mark I is fitted to the towing vehicle by slackening the existing ball hitch mounting bolts, slotting the base plate behind the ball hitch and re-tightening the ball hitch mounting bolts.

Claims (8)

CLAIMS.
1. A hitching aid comprising a base plate with uprights secured to the top thereof, and a detachable ratchet to be secured thereto fitted with a length of webbing at the free end of which is attached a ball.
2. A hitching aid as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the base plate is a steel plate to be secured to the existing ball hitch mounting bolts of a towing vehicle.
3. A hitching aid as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the uprights comprise of at least three high tensile steel bolts which are positioned in the top of the base plate to enable the webbing to be positioned for direct or angled pulling of a towed vehicle.
4. A hitching aid as claimed in Claim 1 wherein a detachable lashing ratchet is secured to the top of the base plate by means of a fastening.
5. A hitching aid as claimed in Claim 4 wherein the fastening is a wing nut.
6. A hitching aid as claimed in Claim 1 wherein at least a two metre length of nylon webbing is secured to the detachable ratchet.
7. A hitching aid as claimed in Claim 6 wherein a 50 millimetre diameter ball is secured to the free end of the webbing.
8. A hitching aid substantially as described herein with reference to figures 1 - 3 of the accompanying drawings.
