Abstract
The unit purifies domestic water supplies by means of silver impregnated activated carbon 16, ion exchange resin 10 and a series of silver plated filters 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, (22), (23). It is able to be washed out with a solution of NaCl and water by filling the container 5 with NaCl crystals and allowing water to flow through the system. The washing out can be carried out in situ by the user. <IMAGE>
Description
NITRATE REMOVING DOMESTIC WATER PURIFIER
This invention is for the removal of harmful chemicals from domestic drinking water supplies. In particular it removes nitrates, chlorine, herbicides, pesticides, bacteria and various quantities of other harmful chemicals by means of a variety of screens and filters.
This invention is needed to ensure that domestic drinking water meets the standards required.
The main benefit of this purifier is the capability to clean and sterilize the filter media by periodic flushing of a controlled NaGi solution. The flushing cylcle is carried out with the unit in situ.
Refering to the drawings
When in use the main water supply is first connected to an isolation tap (1) then filtered by a 200 micron silver plated filter (22) and a 1 micron filter (23) and then flows through the regeneration valve (3 ) to the reciprocal (5 ) Inside this reciprocal (5 ) is a 200 micron filter (6 ) through which the water passes and then through the lower outlet (7 ) to the inlet (8 ) of the resin filter (11 ) through a 200 micron filter (9 ) through the ion resin (10 ) through a 200 micron filter (12 ) to the outlet (13 ).From the outlet (13 ) of the resin filter Cli ) the water passes into the inlet (14 ) of the carbon filter (17) through a 200 micron filter (15 ) then through the silver impregnated activated carbon (16 ) through a 200 micron filter (18 ) and through the carbon filter outlet (l9 ).
The purified water then passes through both a 200 micron silverplated filter (22) and 1 micron filter (23) before entering the water dispensing top (21 ).
After 1000 litres of water has been purified the ion resin (10) will require cleasing of residual nitrate and will require flushing out to remove bacteria growth, this is achieved as follows:
The isolation tap (1) is turned to the closed position, the top (4) of the receptacle is removed and a quantity of water equal to the volume of the receptacle(5) is drained out through the drainage point (13). The receptacle (5) is then filled with BaCl crystals and the cap (4) replaced. The "regeneration" valve (3) is then turned to the regeneration position which diverts the water through a .35 mm hole (25 ) which controls the flow rate. The main isolation tap (1 ) is then turned back on, the water dispensing tap (21) is turned to the fully open position and left to flush out for 2 hrs.
After this time the regeneration valve (3 ) is turned to the "normal" position and the dispensing tap (21 ) is closed. The unit is now ready to treat a further 1000 litres of water.
Claims (8)
1. A domestic water purified which will filter out various harmful bacteria and chemicals, including nitrates and chlorine by means of silver plated filters, silver impregnated actived carbon and ion exchange resin.
The unit can also be regenerated with a NaCl solution while in-situ.
2. In place of the isolating tap (l) and regeneration tap (3) a 3 position tap may be used.
3. Vater flow direction can be reversed through the resin filter (11) and the carbon filter (17 ) if required.
4. All connections can be connected or disconnected individually by the user with the use of the push fit connectors.
5. All filter screens can be varied in size to suit local conditions.
6. The unit can be free standing or mounted in a purpose made container.
7. The size of the unit can be increased to satisfy a large volume user.
8. The regeneration can be selected to cleanse one or both of the filter media.
