Abstract
A blank for a greetings card comprises two superposable lamina members (11, 12) joined by a fold line (13). One surface, ie. a front surface, of the lamina member (11) has a mirror finish. The fold line (13) is such that said one surface serves as an inner surface of a greetings card produced from the blank, in use. The opposed lamina member (12) is die-cut or printed thereon to provide an alpha-numeric message (14) and/or a design which is readably viewable in the said mirrored surface when lamina members (11,12) are positioned apart at an acute angle one to other, in use. <IMAGE>
Description
IMPROVEMENTS IN AND RELATING TO DISPLAY DEVICES
The invention relates to display devices and more particularly to such devices in the for of greetings cards.
It is an object of the invention to provide greetings cards which have enhanced eye appeal and yet are relatively inexpensive to produce.
Accordingly, the present invention is a blank for a greetings card comprising at last to superposable lamina members joined by a fold lire, t least the zoo portion of one surface of at last oe o the lartina members having a mirror finish and the old line being such that said one surface comprises an inner surface C- a greetings card produced from the blank in use.
Preferably the opposed other lamina member is die- cut to provide an alpha-numeric message which is readably viewable in the said mirrored surface when such lamina members are positioned apart at an acute angle one to other, in use.
Alternatively or additionally the opposed surface of the other lamina member may have an alpha-numeric message printed thereon so as to be readably viewable in the said mirrored surface when such lamina members are positioned apart at an acute angle one to the other, in use.
Additionally or alternatively said opposed surface may have on or more designs, art formed photographs or the like locate thereon by die-cutting, printing or adhesion.
A member may be located on said opposed surface arranged or formed so as to be urged towards said one surface when such lamina members are positioned apart at an acute angle one to the other, in use. In one such embodiment the member @ ray comprise a feather and the mirrored surface may be such that electrostatic effect tends to attract the feather towards such mirrored surface. In an alternative embediment a further separate lamina me@ber may be resiliently mounted to lie parallel with said opposed surface.
A still further separate lamina member may be resiliently mounted to lie parallel with said one surface.
The said o@posed surface nay also have a mirror finish over at least the majority of the area thereof.
At least a third lamina superposable member may be attached by a fold line to an edge of the other member remote from said one member.
The foregoing and further features of the invention may be more readily understood from the following description of some preferred embodiments thereof, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which Fig. 1 is a plan vie4 of a blank for a greetings card;
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the blank of Fig.
1 shown in a display position, in use an Figs. 3 to 5 inclusive are plan views of blanks for alternative greetings cards.
Referring now firstly to Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, there is shown a blank 1@ for a greetings card which comprises a first lamina member 11 joined to a second lamina member 12 along a fold line 13 such that when folded the front surfaces as shown comprise the inner surfaces of the card.
The front surface of member 11 is formed with a mirror surface and the member 12 is die-cut to provide an alpha-nuneric display 14 and a design 15. When the card is folded in the flat position with member 12 superposed above emmber 11, the alpha-numeric display 14 of the message "GET WELL SOON" is readable and the mirrored surface of member 11 is viewable therethrough and through design 15. When the card is partially opened and placed on a support surface for display, the display 14 can be read as the reflection thereof 14' on the mirror surface of member 11 as shown in Fig. 2. This provides a "depth" effect for the message which is appealing to the eye.
Fig. 3 shows an alternative blank to that of Fig.
1 in which the display 14 is of an alternative print to have a stencil effect and the front surface of member 11 is also of mirror form.
Fig. 4 shows a further alternative blank in which a third lamina member 16 is attached to member 12 by a fold line 17 and is die cut to provide an additionally alpha-numeric display 18. The fold line 17 is of reverse direction to the fold line 13 so that member 16 lies beneath member 12 when folded and forms the front surface for tlle card which is also of mirror form.
Fig. 5 shows another alternative blank in which the display 14 is printed on the front surface of member 12 rather than being die cut so that the reverse surface, which will comprise the front of the card, can he printed with a further message.
Fig. 6 shows a still further alternative blank in which a design 15 is partially printed at 15a and partially die cut at 15h. The design in this instance is shown as the head of Father Christmas and his beard is depicted by adhering a feather 19 to the front surf ace of member 12.
Feathers naturally have a static charge and by providing mirror surface of member 11 with a metallic constituent the feather 19 will be attracted towards such surface, to provide an attractive effect, when located on display.
In further embodiments o the invention (not shown), a further member may be attached, for example by a coiled spring, to lie parallel to the, in use, inner surface of member 11 or 12, which tends to enhance the three-dimensional viewing effect of the card when on display. A photograph, for exarple of an aeroplane or rocket, may be adhered to the front surface of member 11 and in a further alternative a photograph, for example of a building, may be cut in two portions and one portion attached to eac of the front surfaces of members 11 and 12 at different heights to provide an attractive effect. The various arrangements shown and described provide appealing display cards with a visual three-dimensional effect at extremely low cost. The mirror surface may be provided by adhering foil to card material or may be of presently available preformed laminated card material.
