Abstract

223,714. Timpany, J. C. Sept. 26, 1923. Washing-machines with swinging beaters, rubbers, or squeezers in stationary recesptacles of the type in which an oscillating rubber is pivotally and resiliently connected to a swinging bumper, so that the clothes are alternately compressed and released between these two members within a tank containing washing liquid, are constructed with a tank of sheet metal, substantially elliptical in vertical section. The rubber 5 is pivoted on lugs 6 on the inside of the tank 1 and the operating handle 22 which is curved about the pivot 6 as centre, passes through a slot in the top of the tank. The rubber is connected to the bumper 11 by a link 9, which carries a swivel eye 16 and bolt 19, the latter passing through a perforated lug 20 on the rubber and being encircled by a spring 18. The lug forms a stop to limit the separatory movement of the rubber and bumper, and the spring, which is compressed at this extreme position, tends to cause them to approach again. Strengthening transverse bars 29 are provided and serve to support flaps hinged thereto and which can be raised and folded over to cover the machine. The straight portion 21<c> of the handle can be folded at 25 and the legs 30 are easily detachable from their sockets.
