Abstract

A building line apparatus includes a holder 11 for a building line, the holder having a body portion 13 for accommodating a building line wound thereupon and a flange 14 extending from the body portion. The body portion and flange have first and second surfaces 15, 21 respectively for locating the holder on a building block with the first and second surfaces respectively contacting first and second adjacent faces of the building block. The second surface 21 has a groove 18 therein extending substantially perpendicular to the face 20 and the flange 14 has a slot 16 extending from one side thereof to the groove 18, to accommodate the line. Boss 19 may be provided for the line to be wrapped around to provide relatively fine adjustment of the length of line. <IMAGE>

Description

DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION A Building Line Apparatus The present invention relates to a building line apparatus.
According to the invention there is provided a building line apparatus comprising a holder for a building line, the holder having a body portion for accommodating a building line wound thereupon and a flange extending from the body portion, the body portion and flange having first and second surfaces respectively for locating the holder on a building block with the first and second surfaces respectively contacting first and second adjacent faces of the building block, the second surface having a groove therein extending substantially perpendicular to the first face of the building block when the holder is mounted as aforesaid, and the flange having a slot extending from one side thereof to the groove.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a pair of holders of a building line apparatus according to the invention; Figure 2 is a rear perspective view of one of the holders of Figure 1 with a building line in place; Figure 3 is a perspective view of the building line apparatus in use; and Figure 4 is an enlarged front perspective view of the building line apparatus in use.
Referring now to the drawings wherein similar numerals have been used to indicate like parts there is shown therein a building line apparatus generally indicated at 10 according to the invention. The apparatus 10 comprises a pair of holders 11 for a building line 12. Each holder 11 comprises a body portion 13 and a flange 14 extending from the body portion 13. The flange 14 and the body portion 13 have respective flat surfaces 15 and 21 which are disposed substantially at right angles to one another for embracing two adjacent faces 32 and 33 of a building block 30 (Figure 3).
As shown, a slot 16 is provided in each flange 14 which extends laterally adjacent to the block engaging surface 15, the slot 16 extending from one side of the flange 14 and terminating at the mid-region 17 of the flange. Further, the surface 21 of the flange 14 has a groove 18 therein to accommodate the building line which passes through the slot 16, the groove 18 being substantially perpendicular to the surface 15. The body portion 13 has at least one projecting boss 19 formed thereon around which the line 12 may be engaged prior to being fed through the slot 16 to enable the length of the line 12 extending between the two holders 11 to be adjusted. In effect, unwinding the line 12 from the body portion 13 provides a coarse adjustment of the length of the line 12, fine adjustment being achieved by taking up any slack by winding round the boss 19.A rubber or plastics pad 20 is preferably fixed to the body portion 13 to form the block engaging surface 15.
The ends (not shown) of the building line 12 are attached to the holders 11 and the line 12 extends between the holders 11, with the line passing through the slots 16.
In use, one holder 11 is located on a building block 30 as shown in Figure 3 and the line 12 is unwound from the two holders to a sufficient length to enable it to extend between corner blocks 30, 31 of a building under construction. The second holder 11 is engaged on the building block 31 in a manner similar to that of the first holder 11. In each case the holder is mounted on the respective corner block with the surface 15 contacting the end face 32 of the block 30 or 31 and the surface 21 contacting the front face 33 of the block 30 or 31. In this position the groove 18 of each holder is substantially perpendicular to the end face 32 of the block 30 or 31.
The length of the line 12 between the holders 11 is adjusted until it is just sufficiently taut to hold the holders 11 in position, the line 12 being accommodated in the grooves 18 so that the surfaces 21 can lie flat against the faces 33 of the blocks. The length of the line 12 which extends between the holders 11 may be adjusted by winding the line around the body portion 13 or the boss 19, as previously described. It will be appreciated that the body portion 13 may have a number of projections (not shown) or bosses 19 to enable adjustment of the length of line 12.
The invention thus provides a building line apparatus which is simple to use, easy to adjust and which is inexpensive.

Claims (5)

CLAIMS:
1. A building line apparatus comprising a holder for a building line, the holder having a body portion for accommodating a building line wound thereupon and a flange extending from the body portion, the body portion and flange having first and second surfaces respectively for locating the holder on a building block with the first and second surfaces respectively contacting first and second adjacent faces of the building block, the second surface having a groove therein extending substantially perpendicular to the first face of the building block when the holder is mounted as aforesaid, and the flange having a slot extending from one side thereof to the groove.
2. A building line apparatus as claimed in Claim 1, wherein there is at least one projecting boss on the body portion.
3. A building line apparatus as claimed in Claim 1 or 2, wherein the first surface is constituted by the surface of a friction pad.
4. A building line apparatus substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
5. Any novel feature or combination of features disclosed herein.
