Abstract
A tool for removing mortar or other jointing material from brickwork and the like comprises a base plate (4) from which protrudes a rotary cutter (9) arranged to be driven by a power tool such as an angle grinder or drill. The removed material passes through an opening in the base plate (4) to a dust chamber (2) connected through an outlet (3) to a dust bag or other collecting device. <IMAGE>
Description
The Universal mortar Router
(known as The UIR )
Field of InventionBuilding and structures Mintenanpe This invention relates to the renoval of Mortar or jointing of any co position (ie:-liie based , cesent or other) during the process of cleaning and naintaining of brick , stone or other similar construction materials . Processes which are required in order to carry out pointing up rendering or other similar operations.
Background:
The removal of mortars from brickwork etc is a dirty, dangerous and noisey process when using the connonly accepted equipment such as Angle
Grinders, Chain Saws and Drills or any known power tool. During these operations the dust is thrown tangentially away fron the work area causing nuisance , also the use of disc and saws can damage brickwork , stone or concrete etc by overrunning the joint area In order to carry out his operation in safety and with less noise and dust fallout the Universal Mortar Router has been devised as an add on extra for any suitable power tool . (see figs 1A Plan view of base and 1B Side elevation) Bsstial Technical Features ::- The Universal Mortar Router is advantageous in that it is adaptable to any suitable power source and has a conbination of features which allow quieter and less hazardous nortar renoving processes to take place whilst using readily available Industry standard power tools and cutters.
Features A fibre glass plastic or retail base (itea 1)unit of any geometric shape ie:-Bquare , Round , Oblong , Rectangular , Triangular or combinations of and/or irregular shapes (see fig 2 Plan view of underside).
Into which is built or moulded a catchment chamber Cite 2)for dust and old mortar this in turn being connected via an elbow and pipe of suitable size (iten 3)to a removal source ie:-vacuui cleaner (2): Bae a lethal or plastic/fibre glass skid base plate (iten 4 fig 3 view)attached by clips /screws , bolts or other fixings in which are apertures and or slots thich allow the renoved material access to the vacuum pick up chamber or chambers .(itea 2 see fig 2 and 3).
cont
Features (cont):
The working head (item 5) is constructed of an assembly of bearings and suitable drive arrangements of either belt pulleys (iten 6 vee or item 7 toothed or any other suitable device) made of netal or plastic. Alternatively a direct drive can be used directly coupled (item8) to the cutter head via a threaded or flange or other type of adaptor . The UMR can be powered by any suitable power source ie:
Induction rotor
Synchronous rotor
Universal rotor
Air motor
Hydraulic rotor
Spark ignition Engine or any other from of prize nover running at a suitable speed for the Material being worked and the cutting tool used.
(4):- The flexibility and adaptation of the UJER enables it to be used with any power source that is suitable and provided with guards to ensure safe operation whilst retaining the original feature of the prize Mover ie:- Drill , angle grinder , sander etc.

Claims (1)
- Universal Mortar Router cont Claims A Universal Mortar Outer is classed due to its ability to renove any jointing Material by driving an appropriate cutting tool rotating in either %CLOCKWISE or ANTICLOCKWISE DIRECTION (see fig 2 shown clockwise) consisting of either Tungsten Carbide Tips , High Speed Steel , Diamond or any other to a predeteruined depth usually accepted in restoring brickwork , stonework and concrete, (2): It is also clained by virtue of its adaptability to fit any power tool that is physically appropriate and can be operated with safety (3)::- Having a soundly constructed hollow base (iteM 1) designed to achieve the greatest uount of access and a suitable sliding base plate attachment which is capable of quick release ,the device is claimed to be smooth and effective to operate , Also during these operations the dust /old Mortar is collected in the suction chamber (item 2) whilst Moving the UMR in either the forward /backward /up/ or down direction of the mortar joint being cleaned out (see fig4) (4) It is classed that the renoved Material will be collected in the curved or suitably shaped suction chamber (item 2) and either allowed to (see fig 2) (a):-Remain in the chaMber or (b) -Be collected by a dust bag or (c) -Be allowed to fall by gravity or (d):Can be collected by an external source ie: vacuum cleaner or other device.(5).It is closed that the provision of indicator parks on either the base or the power tool will enable the alignment of the cutter ( unseen by operator )position to be ascertained , relative to any horizontal or vertical joint or face (see fig lb and fig 4).cont Universal Mortar Router cont Amendments to the claims have been filed as follows A Universal Xortar Router is claimed due to its ability to remove any jointing material by driving an appropriate cutting tool rotating in either CLOCKWISE or AITICLOCKYISE DIRECTION (see fig 3 showing clockwise) consisting of either Tungsten Carbide Tips , High Speed Steel , Diamond or any other to a predetermined depth usually accepted in restoring brickwork , stonework and concrete.(2):- It is also claimed by virtue of its adaptability to fit any power tool that is physically appropriate and can be operated with safety (3):- Having a soundly constructed hollow base (item 1) designed to achieve the greatest amount of access and a suitable sliding base plate attachment which is capable of quick release ,the device is claimed to be smooth and effective to operate .Also during these operations the dust /old mortar is collected in the suction chamber (item 2) whilst moving the UXR in either the forward /backward /up/ or down direction of the mortar joint being cleaned out (see fig 4) (4) It is claimed that the removed material will be collected in the curved or suitably shaped suction chamber (item 2 > and either allowed to (see fig 2 & ) (a) :-Remain in the chamber or (b) -Be collected by a dust bag or (c) -Be allowed to fall by gravity or (d): Can be collected by an external source ie: vaccum cleaner or other device.5): It is claimed that the provision of indicator marks on either the base or be power tool will enable the alignment of the cutter (unsighted by operator) osition to be ascertained , relative to any horizontal or vertical joint nr faze ee fig 1 and fig 4).cont THE UNIVERSAL MORTAR ROUTER (A): Therefore the main claim of the UXR is in the unique design of the provision of a dust collection facility which takes the form of a chamber and baffle/volute (item 2) connected to an outlet, to which can be attached an extractor urit (3)- It is also claimed that the concept of adaptability to any suitable grinder, drill or similar tool or payer source gives the UMR a unique flexibility
