223,475. Steen, C. A. Feb. 19, 1924. Oscillating sieves. - Apparatus for drying grain comprises a reciprocating sieve carrying the grain and surrounded by passages for hot air &c., the sieve being supported by links connected to a longitudinal shaft which is capable of being axially moved by a hand wheel &c. to vary the inclination of the links. The hot air passage may be constituted by a chamber arranged under and connected with the sieve, the air and grain moving in counter current. The sieve surface may be, curved upwards at the discharge end. As shown, the sieve is carried by links 15 suspended in pairs from cross bars 16 on a shaft 17 which may be axially moved by a handwheel 18; the sieve is reciprocated by connecting- rods on a crank-shaft 13. The grain is fed through a funnel 3 and a flexible tube 4 to an adjustable pipe 6, the height of which determines the level of the grain; it is discharged through a channel 7 sloping to one side. Hot air is supplied through an inlet 8 to a chamber 9 integral with the shaking table and having a door 19 for discharge of sand and dirt separated during the process. The used air may escape freely, or the sieve may be surmounted by a closed chamber connected to a chimney, the draught of which may provide the required suction.
