Abstract

A copyholder for use with typewriters and the like, comprises a single arm adapted to be mounted substantially vertically on the typewriter by means of a fitting at the lower end, and terminating at its upper end with a copyholding clip. As described, the lower end is substantially cylindrical and is resiliently held in a clip (2) of "C" shaped cross section and forming part of a bracket (3) securable to the machine (e.g. by a self adhesive layer). The upper end (5) bears a paper clamp. <IMAGE>

Description

A COPYHOLDER The present invention reiates to a copyholder for supporting copy or notes to be typed on for example; a personal computer. word processor, typewrtter etc.
copyholders are used to support copy or notes in a position where the contents can easily read by a typist whilst typing them on a keyboard. It should not be underestimated how useful copyholders are. Copy which is badly positioned can give the typist a great deai of physical discomfort and can result in a redusbon in the typists speed.
A variety of copyholder: are knows one of which attaches to the typists equipment and it is to this type of copyholder that the present invention relates. These copyholder: comprise of two substantially blade-like interconnected arms one of which serves as an attachment by a fastener.
such as double sided adhesive tape. to the typists equipment and the other as a extension tor attaching the copy in a convenient position for the typist adjacent to the monitor or visual display unit The present invention is comprised of a single arm which is attached to the typists equipment at the lower end by a fastener such as double sided sticky tape. The arm extends upwards and is terminated at the higher end by a dip which is used to attach the copy to the arm in a convenient position for the copyto be read bythe operator.
In one preferred embodiment of the present invention the lower end of the arm is supported or held by means of a dip which can allow the arm to be rotated to the most convenient position for the operator to read the attached copy. The dip is attached to the typists equipment by means of a fastener such as double sided sticky tape.
In one prefened embodiment of the present invention the dip is substantially in the form of an open cylinder with a C shaped cross-section which will prevent damage to array part of the apparatus or the typewriter or the monitor by expanding and allowing the arm to detach if it is accidentally knocked.
In one prefened embodiment of the present invention the top end of the arm is terminated by a section which incorporates a substantially horizontal groove. This groove is so positioned as to cause the copy to be slightly bent along the line of the groove when pressed into the groove by the detachable dip. This has the advantage of providing a single corrugation near the top of the copy which stitfens and supports the copy.
In one preferred embodiment of the present invention the top end of the arm is terminated by a detachable clipwhich can be attached to either side of the arm. allowing the arm to be attached to either side of the typing machine Embodiments of the present invention will now be described byway of example. with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:: Fig 1 shows a front elevation ofthe copyholder Fig 2 shows a perspective of the bottom dip Fig 3 shows a perspective of the bottom of the arm Fig 4 shows a perspective of the top of the arm with the top dip attached Fig 5 shows a front elevation of the top of the arm with the top dip attached Fig 6 shows a side view of the top of the arm with the dip attached Fig 7 shows a perspedve of the top of the arm with two perspectives of the detachable top dip Referring to the accompanying drawings there is shown a copyholder comprising an extension arm 1 which is held atthe bottom end by clip 2 which is substantially in the form of'cm cross section open cylinder 4 with a backplate 3. The extension arm can be rotated within dip 2. This dip 2 can be attached to the typists equipment by means of a fastener such as double sided adhesive tape at 3. The top of the arm is moulded substantially in the shape of a cross 5, the horizontal arms of which serve as the attachment point four the reversible half dip 6. theverticel top section of the cross provides a support against which the top sedon of the half dip can be gripped and squeezed open to insert the copy. In effect the top section of the extension arm is moulded to form the other hall of the half dip 6. One of the horizontal grooves which serve to bend and so stiffen the copy is shown at 7

Claims (7)

  1. CLAIMS 1. A copholder for supporting at least one paper sheet adjacent to an office machine comprising a single arm which is attached to the typists equipment at the lower end by a fastening device. The arm extends upwards from the attached end and is terminated at the higher end by a clip which is used to attach the copy to the arm in a convenient position for the copy to read by the operator.
  2. 2. A copyholder as claimed in claim 1 wherein the means provided at the lower end to allow the arm to swivel in a substantially horizontal plane is moulded in the form of an open cylinder clip with a 'C' shaped cross section which will prevent damage to any part of the copyholder or the office machine by expanding and allowing the arm to detach if it is accidently knocked -
  3. 3. A copyholder as claimedin claim 1 wherein the means provided at the lower end to allow the arm to swivel is substantially in the form of male and female flanged cylindrical sections which allows the arm to be easily connected together for use or seperated for packaging.
  4. 4. A copyholder as claimed in claim 1 or claim 2 or claim 3 or claim' 4 wherein the attachment means at the lower end is b releasable hook and loop tpe fastener or double sided adhesive tape or a magnetic element.
  5. 5. A copholder as defined in claim 1 or claim 2 or claim 3 or claim 4 wherein the top end is terminated by a section iliicli incorporates a substantially horizontal groove which is so positioned as to cause the copy to be bent along the line of the groove by a clip.
  6. 6 A copyholder as defined in claim 1 or claim 2 or claim 3 or claim 4 or claim 5 wherein-the clip at the top end is detachable and can be attached to either side of the top end of the arm which is symetrically grooved.
  7. 7. A copyholder as defined in claim 1 or claim 2 or claim 3 or claim 4 or claim 5 or claim 6 wherein the top of the arm is moulded substantially in the shape of a cross, the horizontal arms of which serve as the attachment points for a reversible half clip. The vertical top section of the cross provides a support against which the top section of the half clip can be gripped and squeezed open against the resistance to twisting of its attachment arms which grip onto the hcrizorltal ar-m of the said cross piece.
