Abstract

A flexible tool bag for use with portable folding workbenches comprises closable (8) flaps (9,14) and a hard base. It is made to fit releasably between the front and rear horizontal cross members around the vertical supports and directly below the jaws of the workbench, e.g. by straps (4, and press studs (6, 7). The tool bag enables the tools to remain in position whilst the workbench is folded and moved (Fig 3, not shown). Handles (5) are fitted to the tool bag to allow it to be used independent of a workbench (Fig 4, not shown). <IMAGE>

Description

FLEXIBLE TOOL BAG / TRAY This invention relates to a flexible tool bag/tray for use with portable folding workbenches.
The flexible tool bag/tray is secured when required between the front and rear horizontal cross members and around the vertical supports of a portable folding workbench and directly below the work jaws. In this position it can be used as a convenient storage tray for tools and workbench accessories (e.g.plastic vice clamps) whilst the workbench is in use,without restricting the normal access.When the workbench has to be moved the tools can be secured in the flexible tool bag/tray by means of flaps and with the flexible tool bag/tray still in position the bench can be folded for transportation.On re-erection of the workbench and opening of the flaps,the tools are once again accessible.
According to the present invention the tool bag/tray is constructed of a tough flexible material (e.g.canvas or a PVC based material) and strengthened with an inserted hardboard base. Means are provided to easily and quickly secure the tool bag/tray to the horizontal cross members of a portable folding workbench.As the front cross member is lower than the rear,the bag is constructed to accommodate this difference and this gives greater ease of access for tools.Sealable flaps are provided to close the tool bag/ tray when the workbench is being transported and carrying handles are added so that the tool bag/tray can be carried independently of the workbench.A small closing pocket is provided on the front flap to hold drill bits and other small tools.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which.

Referring to the drawing the flexible tool bag/tray consists of a piece of tough flexible material 13 cut to the shape as shown in Fig.2. ( the size is determined by the particular model of folding workbench 1 to which the tool bag/tray 2 is to be fixed.).
In this example webbing straps 4 and press studs 6 & are added to the the outside face of the material 13 to enable fixing to the workbench.A carrying handle 5 is also stitched to this surface (stitching limits 12 )and a small closing pocket is added on the inner face of the front flap 9, so that it is accessible when the tool bag/tray is installed on a workbench as in Fig.1.
The tool bag/tray is deeper at the rear than the front to accommodate the difference in height of the two cross members on the workbench.This is provided for by the longer rear seams 11 as opposed to the shorter front seams 10.
In order to secure tools within the tool bag/tray for transport either in or out of the folding workbench a means of closing the front 9 and rear flaps 14 is provided.In this example two pairs of press studs 8 are fitted to the leading edge of each flap.

Claims (6)

1. A flexible tool bag/tray for use with portable folding workbenches,comprising a bag of tough flexible material with closing flaps,a hard base,and means of releasably securing it to the horizontal cross members and around the vertical supports of the workbench.
2. A flexible tool bag/tray as claimed in Claim 1 wherein either flap is provided with a pouch or pocket
3. A flexible tool bag/tray as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 capable of being secured to the folding workbench by means of straps and press studs.
4. A flexible tool bag/tray as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 capable of being secured to the folding workbench by means of metal clips or hangers.
5. A flexible tool bag/tray as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 capable of being secured to the folding workbench by means of 'VELCRO' or similar material.
6. A flexible tool bag/tray substantially as described herein with reference to Figs.1-4 of the accompanying drawing.
