Abstract

In a letter box (1) comprising a receptacle (2), having an opening (46), through which items of mail may be inserted into the said receptacle (2), there are provided safety means (7d, 8, 9) operable when an inflammable agent (petrol) is ignited within the receptacle (2). Such safety means (7d, 8, 9) may comprise exclusion means for restricting the supply of air and petrol to the area of combustion (7.2). By providing the letter-box (1) with safety means (7d, 8, 9) the spread of flame within such a letter box (1) is prevented. <IMAGE>
