Abstract

A fire escape comprises a rope ladder 10 securely fixed to an inside wall, below a suitably opening upstairs window by means of a wall mounting bracket 11 and concealed by a cover box having the size and appearance of a small wall mounted room heater, thus providing a means of escape in the event of a fire, which is permanently in position, yet stowed away out of sight. When needed, the cover box is pulled off the bracket 11, to which it may be attached by spring clips. The free end of the ladder 10 may be attached to the cover, so that the cover is thrown through the window and acts as a weight for the end of the ladder. <IMAGE>

STOW-AWAY FIRE ESCAPE.
THIS INVENTION RFVTES TO A STOW-AWAY FIRE ESCAPE.
FIRE ESCAPES ARE NORMALLY STRUCTURES ERECTED ON THE OUTSIDE OF BUILDINGS, AND ARE P13RMANENY IN POSITION. ALTHOUGH VERY NECESSARY FOR MOST PUBLIC BUILDINGS, THEY ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND ARE TOTALLY IUPRACTICABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE FOR MOST FORMS OF DOMESTIC DENGS, OFFICES AND HOTEL BUILDINGS. THEY CAN ALSO BE A MEANS OF ACCESS FOR UNWELCOME VISITORS AS WELL AS A MEANS OF ESCAPE IN THE EVENT OF A FIRE.
ACCORDING TO THE PRESENT INVENTION, THE STOW-AWAY FIRE ESCAPE, A ROPE LADDER IS SECURELY FIXED TO THE WALL INSIDE THE BUILDING, JUST BELOW A SUITABLY OPENING WINDOW, AND CONCEAlED INSIDE A COVER BOX, WHICH HAS THE APPEARANCE AND SIZE OF A SMALL WALL MOUNTED ROOM HEATER, WHICH CAN BE FITTED WITH RELATIVE EASE TO ALL FORMS OF DOMESTIC HOUSES, LOW RISE BLOCKS OF FLATS, OFFICES AND HOTEL BUILDINGS.
A SPECIFIC EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION WILL NOW BE DESCRIBED BY WAY OF EXAMPLE WITH REFERENCE TO THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS IN WHICH: FIGURE 1 SHOWS COVER BOX IN POSITION CONCEAMNG ROPE LADDER AND FIXING BRACKET.
FIGURE 2 SHOWS COVER BOX REMOVED REVEALING ROPE LADDER AND FIXING BRACKET.
FIGURE 3 SHOWS COVER BOX BEING THROWN THROUGH OPEN WINDOW WITH ROPE LADDER PACKED WITHIN.
FIGURE 4 SHOWS ROPE LADDER EXTENDED DOWN OUTSIDE OF BUILDING.
STOW-AWAY FIRE ESCAPE.
REFERRING TO THE DRAWINGS THE STOW-AWAY FIRE ESCAPE COMPRISES, A ROPE LADDER 10 WITH RIGID RUNGS, SECURELY FIXED AT ONE END TO A WALL MOUNTING BRACKET 11 WHICH WOULD BE FIXED BY MEANS OF ANCHOR BOLTS 13 TO AN INSIDE WALL BELOW A SUITABLY OPENING WINDOW. THE OTHER END OF THE ROPE LADDER 10 WOULD BE ATTACHED TO AND PACKED WITHIN A COVER BOX 12, AS SHOWN IN FIG 2 THE COVER BOX 12, WITH THE ROPE LADDER 10 PACKED INSIDE, WOULD THEN BE FIXED OVER THE WALL MOUNTING BRACKET 11 BY WAY OF RETAINING SPRING CLIPS, CATCH OR SIMILAR MEANS (NOT SHOWN) WHICH WOULD CONCEAL BOTH ROPE LADDER 10 AND WALL MOUNTING BRACKET ii AND HAVE THE APPEARANCE OF A SMALL WALL MOUNTED ROOM HEATER. AS SHOWN IN FIG 1.
TO BRING THE FIRE ESCAPE INTO USE, THE COVER BOX 12 WOULD SIMPLY BE PULLED AWAY FROM THE WALL OFF OF IT'S RETAINING SPRING CLIPS, AND ETH THE ROPE LADDER 10 STILL PACKED WITHIN, BE THROWN THROUGH AN OPEN WINDOW. AS SHOWN IN FIG 3 LEAVING THE OTHER END OF THE ROPE LADDER 10 SECURELY FIXED TO THE WALL MOUNTING BRACKET 11 THE ROPE LADDER 10 WOULD THEN UNRAVEL FROM THE COVER BOX 12 AS IT FALLS TO THE GROUND, AND BE EXTENDED DOWN THE OUTSIDE OF THE BUILDING, AS SHOWN IN FIG 4.

Claims (4)

  1. STOW-AWAY FIRE ESCAPE.
    CLAIMS 1 A STOW-AWAY FIRE ESCAPE COMPRISING A ROPE LAUDER SECURELY FIXED TO A WALL MOUNTING BRACKET AT ONE END. THE ROPE LADDER THEN BEING PACKED INSIDE A COVER BOX. THE COVER BOX WOULD THEN BY MEANS OF RETAINING SPRING CMPS OR CATCHES FIT OVER THE WALL MOUNTING BRACKET TO CONCEAL BOTH MOUNTING BRACKET AND ROPE LADDER WITHIN, AND WOULD HAVE THE APPEARANCE OF A SMALL WALL MOUNTED ROOM HEATER.
  2. 2 A STOW-AWAY FIRE ESCAPE AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 1 g WHEREIN COVER BOX WITH ROPE LADDER PACKED WITHIN, CAN BE EASILY RELEASED FROM WALL MOUNTING BRACKET LEAVING ONE END OF THE ROPE LADDER ATTACHED TO THE MOUNTING BRACKET, WHICH IS BOLTED TO AN INSIDE WALL BELOW A SUITABLY OPENING ININDOW.
  3. 3 A STOW-AWAY FIRE ESCAPE AS CLAIMED IN CLAIM 1 AND CLAIM 2 WHICH CAN BE FITTED TO ALL FORMS OF DOMESTIC HOUSES, LOW RISE BLOCKS OF FLATS, OFFICES AND HOTEL BUILDINGS.
  4. 4 A STOW-AWAY FIRE ESCAPE SUBSTANTIALLY DESCRIBED HEREIN MZTH REFERENCE TO FIGURES 1m4 OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS.
