Abstract

The game comprises a table, sixteen balls and two cues. Two players try to pot their numbered balls in sequence into their numbered pockets. Each player has seven balls numbered one to seven, the other two balls are one white and one black. The black has a number seven on either side, which has to be potted only down the number seven pocket. Once this is achieved that player is the winner. All players must use the white ball to hit his numbered balls. <IMAGE>

Description

NUMBERS This is a game called numbers, which will be played by at least two players, and upto four on a team effort. Players can spin a coin to see who will make the first break.
Balls should be racked in sequence as shown in Diagram 3.
The player who wins the toss then proceeds to make the break using the white ball. On making the break at least two balls should hit the cushions on either side, failing to do so results in a restart of the game with the loss of one shot. The opposing player then attempts to break with a follow-on shot.
If a player pots two balls on his first shot, e.g. one yellow Number 5 and one blue Number 6, he then has a choice of colours with numbers After he has made his choice he then proceeds to pot his numbered balls in corresponding numbered pockets, always potting in sequence.
He can, when in play strike his numbered balls in position, as near as possible to their numbered pockets so making it difficult for his opponent to follow on when it is their turn.
The use of cushions are, when used with skill, an asset to your game, and used properly could make a difficult game for your opponent.
If a player pots the seventh ball in the Number seven pocket he then proceeds to pot the black in the seventh pocket so making him the winner.
To Be Numbered If a players next playing ball is blocked behind another numbered ball, so making it difficult for the player to hit the ball, this is called "numbered".
If a player is numbered as a result of a foul stroke, the player will be given a free ball Touch Ball If a player's ball is touching any other ball, he must hit away from the other ball. This counts as a shot.
Cues The cues can be 52 inches long.approx. 4 inches in circumference at the top of the handle, tapering to 18 inches at the tip.
The tip to be enclosed by a metal or plastic ferrule containing a leather cue tip.
Balls There are sixteen balls in total, they are usually made of phenolic resin, and are approx. 1 7/8 inches except for the white cue ball which is smaller in size.
The balls are numbered one to seven and are coloured as to separate each side into two groups, one yellow, one blue, with the black ball with the number seven on each side inside two rings, one blue, one yellow.
The Rack The rack is made of wood or plastic, and is in the shape of a triangle. It is used to set up the numbered balls in the correct position.
Rack Sequence (as in Diagram 3) The number seven ball, of any colour, is placed at the top.
Next both number one balls, behind these the number two balls are placed either side, making sure either side is different in colour to the number one balls. The number three balls are placed either side of the two number six balls, The number four balls are then placed at the bottom corners between the two number five balls, and making sure the remaining number seven ball is placed in the centre of both number five balls.
The black ball is placed between the two number two balls.
See Diagram 3 The Table The surface of the table is covered by a wool/nylon cloth.
This can be blue in colour or other colours could be available.
The grain to run down the table from the "three pocket line" to the "rack spot".
The pocket size is equal to the ball, diameter 1 7/8 inches at the point of drop. The pockets are positioned as shown in diagram 1.
The sides of the table rise approximately just less than half the ball diameter above the table top. The rimmed edge creates a cushion effect, which is called a cushion.
The area of play has certain markings. Firstly the "racking spot", which is at the intersection of diagonals of the centre and corner pockets.
The three pocket line, which has a "D" diameter, is approx.
lft.2ins. from the corners of the number three pocket and number four pocket, as in diagram 7.
Each pocket to be numbered one to seven, with the number seven pocket inbetween the number three and number four pockets.
The table consists of seven pockets, situated on a table 6ft.7ins by 3ft.4ins. as in diagram 1. Measurements taken from the centre at the bottom between pocket numbers one and six to the top between pocket numbers three and four into the centre of number seven pocket. The top moves out at a 150 angle from either side, forming a recess at the top, where the number seven pocket is situated.
Rules of the Game (all the following incur the loss of one shot) 1. You must not pot your opponent's ball in any pocket.
2. If a player pots, say No.4 ball into No.5 pocket from his own colour.
3. If a player strikes the cue ball with the cue more than once.

14. No ball should be knocked off the table.
15. Player must pot all his balls in sequence, failing to do so results in him missing a turn.

17. A player must attempt to pot the black in an attempt to finish the game, in the seventh pocket.
