Abstract

A door control unit has a box section slotted restricted arm 12 which is secured to a swivel bracket 15 fixed to door jamb 11. A ball-headed bolt 16 is secured to the door through back plate 18 and, to engage the control, bolt 16 is pushed until head enters slotted arm, 12 before opening the door. As the door is opened bolt head traverses arm 12 until further movement is arrested by end of an extension 13 of box section. The control unit is disengaged by withdrawing bolt 16 by knob 17. <IMAGE>

Description

DOOR CONTROL UNIT '2his invention relates to a two way door control Door controls are well known fittings which comprise a loose chain permanently secured to the door jamb or spring loaded and retractable or a bar to limit the door opening.
Available door controls vary considerably in performance all offer some resistance to forced entry but cannot be used to assist in door closure.
According to the present invention there is provided a box section restricter arm which is attached to a bracket secured to the door jamb. The bracket provides for movement of the restricter arm as the door is opened or closed and the box section bolt secured to the door is engaged. A smaller box section inside the restricter arm provides a screw lockable stop to control the door opening,which is related to the leverage available to assist in closing the door against resistance.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which : Fig 1 shows in perspective the control unit fixed to the door jamb and door indicating two apertures.
Fig 2 illustrates the control unit fixed to the inside face of door jamb and door with the door bolt engaged.
Fig 3 illustrates the locking screw through the lever extention restricting the door at minimum aperture, Door closed. Bolt engaged.
Referring to the drawing the door control comprises a slotted restricter arm 12 secured to a swivel bracket 15 which is fixed to the closing door jamb 11 by for example screws,bolts or similar means. A ball headed locking bolt 16 is secured to the face of the door 10 through back plate 18, In order to engage the door control the bolt 16 pushed forward until the ball head enters the slotted restricter arm 12 before opening the door.
As the door is opened the bolt 16 traverses the restricter arm until further movement is arrested by the top end of lever extention 13 which controls the aperture by using locking screw 14.
The control unit is dis-engaged by using the knob 17 to withdraw the bolt 16 fron the restricter arm when the door is closed.

Claims (7)

  1. I A door control unit comprising a box section restricter arm secured to a bracket mounted on the door jamb. A bolt is secured to the door to engage the restricter arm.
  2. 2 A door control unit as claimed in Claim I wherein guide means are provided on the restricter arm co-operable with the door bolt within the allowable range of movement.
  3. 3 A door control unit as claimed in Claim I or Claim 2 wherein the guide means is provided throughout the operable range of the restricter arm.
  4. 4 A door control unit as claimed in Claim 2 or 3 wherein catchment means is provided in the restricter arm for arresting the movement of the door inwards.
  5. 5 A door control unit as claimed in Claim 4 wherein the catchment means is adapted to co-operate with the guide means in order to arrest the opening of the door.
  6. 6 A door control unit as claimed in any preceding claim,wherein the position of the aperture control screw directly relates to the door closing leverage available.
  7. 7 A door control unit substantially as described herein,with reference to figures I - 3 of the accompanying drawings.
