Abstract

A self aligning post bracket has a wrought iron bracket 10 with two lugs 12 which enable the bracket to be fitted and secured within the joggle 17 of the front clamping strap. The clamps 13 and 15 are formed so as to enable fixing and self alignment of bracket 10. <IMAGE>

Description

SELF ALIGNING AND SIMPLY ASSEMBLED POST BRACKET AND CLAMPS This invention relates to a Self Aligning Hanging Basket Bracket.

Hanging basket brackets are produced to fix to fence posts with countersunk holes for woodscrews, to be screwed directly to the post. This method is awkward and cumbersome to screw the bracket to the post, whilst at the same time, holding and positioning the bracket vertically. Also, where the bracket is being attached to a concrete post, in this instance, it is also necessary to drill and rawl plug the fixing holes in the post.

According to the present invention there is provided, a simply assembled post bracket and clamp, comprising a bracket with two lugs preciseley welded at right angles to the width of the bracket. A clamp consisting of two rectangular straps with the ends of each rectangle formed at 90 degrees to accomodate captive nuts and clamping screws, the front rectangular clamping strap has a centrally positioned joggle preciseley formed to fit the width of the bracket.

A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of an example with reference to the accompanying drawings which includes: FIG. li Shows in perspective, the bracket clamped squarely and rigidly to the post.

Referring to the drawings, the post bracket comprises a wrought iron bracket 10 with the bracket lugs 12 positioned diagonally, and to the full width of the bracket 10.

The clamping arrangenent comprises of, two clamping straps, the rear strap 13 incorporating the captive nuts 14, the front clamping strap 15 incorporating two clearance holes for the clamping screws 16 and the centrally formed joggle 17.

In order to position and clamp the bracket onto a post, the front clamping strap 15, and rear clamping strap 13 are loosely screwed together with the bracket 10 inside, as shown in FIG. 2., the front clamping strap 15 is then engaged by positioning the bottom of the front clamping strap joggle 17, onto the bottom lug 12 of the bracket 10 location, as shown in position (1) FIG. 3.

pressure is then applied to the top of the front clamping strap joggle 17 position (2) FIG. 3. which compresses the plastic coating and presses the clamping strap joggle 17 between the two brackets location lugs 12, the front clamping strap 15 and the bracket 10 are squarely and securely in position, position (3) FIG. 3.

The front and rear straps 13 & 15 are then slid over the post and positioned at the required height, the clamps and bracket will stay in position without any support and freeing both hands to secure the clamping straps 13 & 15 around the post by tightening the clamping screws 16.

There are three sizes of clamps to suit standard post sizes of 3 x 3", 4" x 4", & 5" x 4".

Claims

1. A self aligning and simply assembled post bracket and clamps, comprising a bracket with two lugs precisely welded square to the width of the bracket. A clamp, consisting of two rectangular straps with the ends of each rectangle formed at 90 degrees to acconodate the captive nuts and clamping screws, the front rectangular clamping strap with a centrally positioned joggle precisely formed to fit the width of the bracket.

2. A self aligning and simply assembled post bracket and clamps as claimed in Claim 1. wherein lugs are provided on the bracket to precisely fit the joggle in the front to facilitate self alignment and rigid clamping.

3. A self aligning and simply assembled post bracket and clamps as claimed in Claim 1. and Claim 2. wherein captive nuts are provided in the rear clamping strap to facilitate simple assembly and positioning.

4. A self aligning and simply assembled post bracket and clamps wherein a plastic coating is provided on the bracket and clamps to facilitate simple fitting, positioning and retention of the bracket.

5. A self aligning and simply assembled post bracket and clamps substantially made as described herein with reference to FIGURES 1 - 3 of the accompanying drawings.
