Abstract
This invention relates to an angler's bed chair which is designed for use where the ground is sloping or uneven. The bed chair has spring-loaded legs which are each slidingly adjustable in height with a locking device to fix the leg in a desired position. The back section (1) is adjustable with a spring-loaded pawl and ratchet mechanism. The foot section (25) is foldable and when opened out lies in the same plane as the seat section (2). <IMAGE>
Description
ANGLERS BEDCHAIR
This invention relates to an anglers bedchair, used where many hours are spent fishing for large freshwater fish such as carp.
A purpose designed bedchair is currently manufactured.
This has adjustable legs to allow for levelling on uneven ground. The adjustment is not infinite and is very awkward to achieve, especially in winter weather when the anglers hands are very cold and the device may have to be manually picked up for adjustment.
The proposed invention seeks to, and gives, a major degree of "self levelling" and very significantly up dates the adjustment with minimum effort by the user.
When the angler arrives at his chosen place to fish, the bed chair is opened out at the head and foot ends giving a large area to lie on. The legs are brought down into position and the angler merely releases the leg locking devices. The spring loaded legs eject downwards lifting the chair. It is then a simple matter to push down on the highest point and lock the legs into position.
The spring loaded legs perform a two fold function
(1) They give a self levelling aspect to the bed chair.
{2) The UPWARDS force of the springs equals that of the DOWNNiARD force of the occupant thus requiring only
a minimal locking force which b design is only ,us; aroater thmn the difference between the two
The ends of the legs may be fitted with large diameter swivel pads to prevent sinking into soft ground.
The back rest position of the chair incorporates a device for easy adjustment whilst the angler is actually sitting on the bed chair. He simply pulls the back up and it springs into the next position.
The front rest (foot) position incorporates a device to allow the rim of the frame to be in a level plane to the bed chair main frame, existing bed chairs have a large and protruding mechanism which allows the foot position to be higher than the frame and uses a large uncomfortable mechanism which hits the anglers knees when in use.
Examples of a bedchair made in accordance with the proposed invention are illustrated by the following drawings:
Fig. 1. Perspective view of an anglers bedchair.
Fig. 2. Gives details of the front (foot) position
giving a level rimmed top frame when in the "use" position.
Fig. 3. Gives details on an adjustable back arrangement.
Fig. 4. Gives constructional details of an adjustable
leg arrangement.
Fig. 1 describes the main constructional details of the bed chair, two side rails (2) are separated by the leg assemblies (3 & 4), the back adjustment mechanism (Fig. 3) and the leg locking mechanism (Fig. 2 & 3) and the front levelling (foot) section (Fig. 4) are shown.
The leg unit may have a square box section cross member welded to tubular legs.
The main framework may be constructed from tubular steel or aluminium.
The leg locking devices (Fig. 4) mounted front and rear on the cross members (3 & 4) may be from cast aluminium.
When folded the chair can easily be carried due to the size and lightweight construction.
Fig. 2 gives details of the front (foot) levelling device. This is not normally angularly adjustable and the mechanism described gives a means to open out the foot portion of the chair, giving a level rimmed frame. The foot portion (see Fig. 2) is pivoted about the two parallel plates (6) mounted between the front leg mechanism (7 & 8) and the foot portion, the two pins (2q) (each side of the chair) allow the foot position to be either
(a) folded over for carrying.
(b) give a level frame when in the operational
position.
This mechanism gives a level rimmed top to the bed.chair when in use, the foot position (26) rests upon the front leg mechanism casting (8) to support it and the anglers weight.
Fig. 3 gives details of a back adjustment mechanism, the spring (12) and peg (22) are held in position by the cross pin (27). This is connected to the two knobs (23) each side of the main lever body (24), the rachet mechanism on the rear leg housing (25) is used to hold all the components. To adjust the back (20) of the chair the angler merely pulls up the rear position whilst still sitting on the chair, the rachet mechanism moves up to the next racket position. To lower the back the knobs (23) are slid outwards and the back lowered to the desired position.
Fig. 4 gives details of the leg adjustment mechanism, a spring (12) pushes downwards on the inside leg tube (B) which normally expands the leg to the fully extended position, the locking collar (15) is held in place by the locking lever (19).
The leg is merely pushed in to the desired position and locked into place.
The swivel foot (18) gives anti sink protection for use on uneven ground.
Claims (2)
- (1) An Anglers bed chair having four infinitely adjustable legs which can be locked into any position along the leg length, to allow the bed chair to present a level plane to the user.(2) An Anglers bed chair according to Claim 1 that uses spring loaded legs to give an upward force equal to the downward force of the occupant, the legs being able to be locked into position when the bed chair is level.(3) An anglers bed chair to give easy self levelling adjustment as Claim 1 &
- 2.(4) An anglers bed chair having a level rimmed front position using a cqntilever or similar device to enable this to be on the same plane as the side rails.(5) An anglers bed chair having a back adjustment which allows the occupant to higher the rear position whilst in use.(6) An anglers bed chair having a rachet adjustment as in Claim 5.(7) An anglers bed chair which can be used as a chair by either folding foot portion or eliminating in accordance with Claims 1 to 6.
