Angular bending.-In a machine for bending pipes, bars, &c. of the type in which the work is held by a longitudinally-adjustable clamp and is bent round a grooved former fixed on a frame by a sweep-arm having a pressure block seated against a longitudinally adjustable holding block, the holding block is adjusted by a lever and toggle mechanism pivotally connected therewith and with a member secured in adjusted position on the arm. An interchangeable former 19 is keyed to the reduced end of one of a pair of standards 6, 7 which support by collars 9 and set screws 10 a slotted table 8 having lateral projections 23 at one end to which a pair of circular tracks or supports 25 are secured. The work 27 is held by a clamp 26 adjustable in one of the slots in the table and bending is effected by a grooved block 33 mounted between a pair of arms 16, 20 which are secured together by bolts 30, plates 31 and spacer 32 and are rotated respectively about the reduced end of the standard 6 and a lock washer 21 secured thereto by a spur wheel 12 connected thereto by a bar 34 and detachable connection. The presser block which is formed in its sides with grooves of different sizes rests against the portion 39 of the face of a saddle which is adjusted by links 36 and lever 37 pivoted to a block 38 fixed to the arms. The portion 40 of the face of the saddle is rearwardly inclined so as to enable the presser block to rock when the resistance is high. A stop lug 48 on a lateral extension of the saddle prevents release of the presser block, and a dowel pin 41 may be provided in the lip 42 to engage a socket in the block for centering purposes. The are of the groove in the former is greater than that in the presser block so that the former bolds the work after bending. A work-table or pan 54 is secured upon the standard 7.
