Description
Liquid cleanser composition
The present invention concerns a liquid cleanser composition including an abrasive and having satisfactory rinsing proper.
Dirt and soil for removal by a cleanser' include denatured or scorched oil stains, fur and slimy contaminations in kitchen sinks, soap waste stains in bath tubs, etc. Surfaces to be treated often comprise materials made of shins metal surface such as stainless steel, deep colored tiles made of e.g. polypropylene and enameled materials used for bath tubs.
In conventional liquid cleansers, various improvements have been attempted to provide a detergent with power for removing such dirt and soil and for reducing damage to the surface to be cleaned.
However abrasives in a liquid cleanser can not be rinsed easily from the side and bottom surfaces of a kitchen sink or a bath tub after cleaning. Some of the abrasive are often left as a white residue and it becomes necessary to clean the surfaces again. Some people do not like to use an abrasive liquid cleanser because of this problem.
The present inventors have made an earnest study for improving the rinsing property, after cleaning, of abrasives in a liquid cleanser for stainless steels, deep colored tiles made of polypropylene and enameled material generally found as described above and, as a result, have accomplished the present invention based on the finding that a remarkable effect can be obtained by blending a specific water soluble polymeric material.
That is, the present invention provides a liquid cleanser composition containing: (a) a higher fatty acid alkanol amide or. alkylene oxide adduct thereof, and (b) an alkali metal salt of an alkyl benzene sulfonic acid at a ratio: 3.02 (a)/(b) 2 0.5 and (a)+(b)is 3.- 8 % by weight and further contains:: (c) 3 to 70 % of a water insoluble abrasive and (d) 0.1 to 5 % by weight of one or more of water soluble polymers with a molecular weight of rrom 200 to 10,000 selected from a polyacrylic acid salt, a polymaleic acid salt, a salt of copolymer of acrylic acid and maleic acid, a salt of copolymer of isobutylene and maleic acid, a salt of copolymer of styrene and maleic acid, a salt of copolymer of allylalcohol and maleic acid and a salt of copolymer of diisobutylene and maleic acid.
As the higher fatty acid alkanol amide or alkylene oxide adduct thereof (a) used in the present invention, there can be mentioned a higher fatty acid (C8 - C20) ethanolamine, for example, shown by the rormula (1) or an ethylene oxide adduct thereof:
where R represents a residue of a fatty acid with 8 to 20 carbon atoms and m+n is 1 - 10.
The alkyl benzene sulfonate (b) used in the present invention has a linear or branched alkyl chain In which a benzene sulfonate group is attached at the terminal end or the intermediate of the alkyl chain and the paired ion is an alkali metal salt such as of sodium or potassium.
An alkyl having C8 - C23 is preferred.
A liquid cleanser composition of good dispersion stability can not be obtained unless the total blending amount for the ingredients (a) and (b) is from 3 to 8 Z by weight and the blending ratio between the ingredients (a) and (b) is within a range: 3.0 > (a)/(b) > 0.5.
It is preferred that R is a fatty acid having 10 to 14 carbon atoms, the sum total of m and n is 1 two 3, the alkyl has 9 to 14 carbon atoms and a ratio of (a) to (b) ranges from 2.0 to 0.5.
In practicing the present invention, the dispersion stability can further be improved by the combined use of an organic acid and sodium silicate.
As the organic acid, there can be mentioned malonic acid, malic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, L-aspargic acid or the salt thereof and, as the sodium silicate, there can be mentioned No. 1 sodium silicate, No. 2 sodium silicate, No. 3 sodium silicate, No. 4 sodium silicate, sodium ortho-silicate, sodium sesqui-silicate, sodium meta-silicate, etc.
As the water-insoluble abrasive of the ingredient (c) used in the present invention, there can be mentioned aluminum oxide, aluminum hydroxide, magnesium oxide, titanium oxide, silicon carbide, calcium carbonate, calcium phosphate, chromium oxide, synthetic zeolite, natural zeolite, or corundum, emery, silica, quartz sand calcite, dolomite and polymer beads such as of polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, polyethylene or ABS.
Among them, silica, calcium carbonate and synthetic zeolite having an average particle size of 1 to 40 microns are preferably used.
The ingredient (c) is used in an amount of 3 to 70 water preferably 20 to 60 water particularly 40 to 60 wit..
The water soluble polymer for the ingredient (d) used for improving the rinsing property in the system according to the present invention can include a. polyacrylic acid salt, a polymaleic acid salt, a salt or acrylic acid maleic acid salt, a salt of isobutylene - maleic acid copolymer, a salt of styrene - maleic acid copolymer, a salt of allylalcohol - maleic acid copolymer and a salt of diisobutylene - maleic acid copolymer. Among them, alkali metal salt such as of sodium or potassium are preferably used having a molecular weight of 200 to 10,000, preferably 200 to 5,000, particularly 400 to 3r000. (d) is used in an amount of 0.1 to 5 wt.%, preferably 0.5 to 3 wit..
In the thickener the partially crosslinked polyacrylic acid salt is preferred to have a molecular weight of 30,000 or more and the other polymers are preferred to have that of 300,000 or more. These thickeners have no effect for improving the rinsing property and they are different from the water soluble polymer of low molecular weight used in the present invention as described above.
In the liquid cleanser composition according to the present invention, alkali agent, solvent, hydrotrope agent, sterilizer, perfume, pigment, dye, etc. can optionally be added within such a range as not deteriorating the aimed effect.
As the alkali agent. there can be used an organic alkali agent such as ammonia, monoethanol amine, diethanol amine, triethanol amine and morpholine, an alkali metal hydroxide such as sodium hydroxide and potassium hydroxides, sodium carbonate, sodium pyrophosphate, sodium tripolyphosphate, sodium borate or potassium salts thereof.
As the solvent, there can be mentioned an aliphatic mono-hydric alcohol such as ethyl alcohol or butyl alcohol, ethylene glycol, propylene glycol, polyethylene glycol or ethers of aliphatic lower alcohols thereof (methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, etc.).
As the hydrotrope agent, p-toluene sulfonate, urea, etc. can be used.
pH of the liquid is adjusted from neutral to alkaline range so as to provide excellent detergent power.
The liquid cleanser composition according to the present invention has excellent rinsing property with no residue of adhesives to the surface to be treated such as sides and bottoms of bath tubs, kitchen sinks, etc.
