Abstract

Packing pieces for insertion between vertical studs and an underlying uneven brick wall have a keyhole slot extending to the periphery of the packing piece to enable them to be slipped behind the stud after the mail or screw hole is driven through it. The pieces may have different thicknesses. <IMAGE>

Description

PACKER This invention relates to a means of levelling and plumbing by use of packing.
It is well known that when a brick wall has to be studded with timber to form a level or plumb surface, the wall is not usually flat. Therefore the timber at some point has to be packed, At present this is achieved by finding bits of wood that might be suitable and placing them behind the studding. This is time consuming and not practical, as you might have to find packing of all different sizes and in most cases the packing tends to fall out.
According to this invention there is a square or rectangle shaped packer with a slot cut out resembling a key hole for sliding over the screw. The top of the key hole shape being round, is where the screw passes through as the hole is in the centre. This helps to stop the packer falling out. This packer being made in various sizes, thickness, length and width, to start and finish at any nominal figure that would suit domestic or industrial use where the packer would be used. The sides of the packer are rough finished so one packer can grip against another.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which Fig 1 shows in perspective the packer in two different shapes, sizes and thickness.
Fig 2 illustrates the packers being used to plumb studding to a brick wall.
Fig 3 shows where the packer should be placed over the screw.
Referring to the drawings Fig 2 shows a length of 2" x 1" wood batton (10) at a nominal length of 8ft to a brick wall (11). 2" x 1" wood batton (10) has to be plumbed in. Doing this you may find the brick wall (11) is not plumbed so somewhere along the length of the 2" x 1" wood batton (10) you would have to use some kind of packing (12). The packer (12) would be placed just between the back of the 2" x 1" wood batton (10) and brick wall (11) making sure not to cover up the hole previously drilled and plugged (13).
Proceed to screw through 2" x 1" wood batton (10) into brick wall until tight. Place spirit level on 2" x 1" wood batton (10), if 2" x 1" wood batton (10) is still not plumbloosenscrew (14), take out packer (12) and place in a thinner or thicker packer as required, until you have found the sufficient amount of packers (12) to plumb wall.

Claims (1)

  1. A square or rectangle shaped packer used for packing out so as to achieve the levelling and plumbing of stud work, as shown or another example would be fixing door liners or kitchen units to a rough or uneven surface.
The packer having a key hole shape cut out with the circle of the key hole shape in the middle of the packer. This helps to hold the packer in place, the faces of which are rough so as to stop sliding when one grips against another. Using all different sizes you can adjust the packing to achieve the levelling.
A packer is a means of levelling and plumbing# stud work by packing as described herein with reference to Figures 1-3 of the accompanying drawings.
