Abstract

Constant-speed control systems. - Relates to constant-speed control apparatus for direct-current motors of the kind used with a constantcurrent supply and controlled by shifting the brushes relatively to the field-magnet axis. A centrifugal governor B, Fig. 1, acting upon a brake 7 checks the normal running of an idle wheel 11 of a differential gear, thus causing the opposite wheel 12 to revolve and communicate motion through a pinion 22 and rack 23 to a brush-rocker in the direction to reduce speed. The brush-rocker is initially set by a handle 25 and the point of action of the governor upon the brake is adjusted as required by a handle 33. In a modification shown in Fig. 3, the opposite wheels 104, 105 of the differential gear are mounted on a screwed spindle 102 and are separately checked by brakes 112, 113 acted upon by a centrifugal governor not shown. The screwed spindle thus moves longitudinally and acts upon brush shifting gear so as to correct both for acceleration and retardation relative to an adjustable, set speed.
