Abstract

The quick fit brick/block handler can be fitted to either a digger or fork lift vehicle. It has two sets of arms 5 & 13 with grip pads 9 on their ends. One set can pivot, this being controlled by rams 7 operated from the vehicles hydraulic system. The handler is lowered over a pack of bricks or blocks, the rams 7 close the arms 5 so that the grip pads 9 securely hold the pack which can then be lifted and moved by the vehicle. <IMAGE>

Description

QUICK FIT BTICK/BLOCK HANDLER This invention relates to a quick fit brick/block handler.
brick and block packs are delivered from the factory to a building area by heavy self loading vehicles which require a relatively firm roadway. Once off loaded brick packs can be moved into the site by fork lift vehicles but blocks, unless off loaded onto pallets, can not be so moved and are generally hand loaded into 'dumpers' or barrows. Once on site it is unlikely, with construction work in progress, that the packs can be moved again as a fork lift vehicle can only approach packs in such a way as to allow the tines to penetrate, any uneven settling of the packs in soft soil removes this possibility.
According to the present invention the quick fit brick/block handler, which is carried by a digger or fork lift vehicle, comprises a box type steel frame with two grip pads, One of the pads can pivot, this being controlled by rams connected into the hydraulic system of the operating vehicle, xien lowered over a pack of bricks or blocks the pads grip them securely.
A specific embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Figure 1 Shows a pictorial view of the invention as carried by a digger.
Figure 2 Shows a pictorial view of the invention as carried by a fork lift vehicle.
Figure 3 Shows a pictorial view of the Quick Fit Brick/ Block Handler. The handler has a box section steel frame 1 with grapple hooks 2 which clip over the bucket of a digger or an attachment on a fork lift vehicle while the stops 3 hold the frame 1 secure, The hoses 4 are connected into the vehicles hydraulic system ( in the case of a digger into the bucket controls and with a fork lift vehicle into a spare auxiliary system) and operate two rams 7 these being secured to the frame 1 by pins 11 through steel plates 12 and pivot arms 5, The arms 5 pivot on pins 6, opening and closing in the direction shown by arrow 8 when the rams 7 are operated. The grip pads 9 are secured to the arms 5 & 13 by brackets and bolts 10. When connected to the vehicle the frame 1 can be lifted and taken to the packs where, with the rams 7 holding the arms 5 open, it can be lowered over a pack. The rams 7 then close the arm 5 so that the grip pads 9 secures the pack which can then be lifted and moved.

Claims (7)

CLAIFE
1. The quick fit brick/block handler is carried by a digger or fork lift vehicle and comprises a box type steel frame with two grip pads. One of the pads can pivot this being controlled by rams connected to the hydraulic system of the operating vehicle. 'Ir'hen lowered over a pack of bricks or blocks the pads grip them securely.
2. The quick fit brickblock handler as claimed in claim 9 has two grapple hooks which hook onto the bucket of a digger or onto an attachment of a fork lift vehicle.
3. The quick fit brick/block handler as claimed in claims 1 & 2 has 'stops' on the arms below the grapple hooks to help secure the handler to the operating vehicle.
4. The quick fit brick/block handler as claimed in claim 1 ha two hydraulic rams to open and close the grip pads.
5. The quick fit brick/block handler as claimed in claim 4 has rams operated from the bucket hydraulic system of a digger or from an auxiliary system available on fork lift vehicles.
6. The quick fit brick/block handler as claimed in claim 1 can grip and release packs and while loaded can be lifted, moved and lowered by the operating vehicle.
7. The quick fit brick/block handler as claimed in claim 1 & 6 can grip a pack from either direction and is not restricted by the need for tine penetration.
