Abstract

A multiple bottle pack consists of a pair of bottles of whisky arranged back-to-back and mutually linked at their necks by means of a pliable plastic "snap-on" tie plate 14; and at their undersides by means of a strip of self-adhesive tape 16. The pack is easily assembled. In modifications, the plate may be replaced by a removable cord or band and the tape by a self-adhesive cardboard strip. <IMAGE>

Description

MULTIPLE BOTTLE PACK This invention relates to a multiple bottle pack.
Certain consumer products are generally retailed singly in glass bottles, for example spirits (beverages) such as whisky, gin, vodka, etc., etc.
It has been found desirable in certain marketing contexts to offer such products in low-number multiples (e.g. 2,3,4, etc.) and to this end the bottles are preferably packaged together to form a single pack, that is a multiple bottle pack.
An object of the present invention is to provide a novel multiple bottle pack which has the advantages of economy, visual appeal (or conversely absence of visual spoiling), and simplicity or ease of application.
According to the present invention, there is provided a multiple bottle pack comprising two or more mutually similar bottles arranged side-by-side, first tie means engaging the necks of the bottles, and second tie means engaging the undersides of the bottles.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which: Fig 1 is a plan view of a tie plate for use in constructing a multiple bottle pack in accordance with the present invention; Fig 2 is a plan view of a multiple bottle pack in accordance with the present invention; Fig 3 is a side elevation of the pack shown in Fig 2; and Fig 4 is an underside view of the pack in Fig 2.
In the drawings, a multiple bottle pack indicated generally by reference numeral 10 consists of a pair of bottles 11 of whisky each having a conventional ROPP (Roll-On-Pilfer-Proof) closure 12. The bottle design features a flattened back portion 13, and the bottles are arranged side-by-side in a back-to-back configuration as best seen in Figures 2 and 4. Thus, the main bottle labels are outwardly presented and will be maintained in this presentation. A first tie means in the form of a plastics tie plate 14 engages the necks of the bottles il just below the closures 12. The configuration of the tie plate 14 is shown full-sized in Fig 1.
The tie plate is of a pliable plastics material, being 115 mm X 43 mm, and 3 mm thick. The tie plate 14 is provided with mutually spaced apertures 15 of opensided part-circular configuration suitable for engagement with the bottle necks.
A second tie means in the form of a strip of selfadhesive tape 16 is applied to the undersides of the bottles.
The arrangement described above provides an easilyassembled multiple bottle pack which, when the bottles are separated, leaves no unsightly trace. The multiple pack is also economic to produce.
Modifications of the multiple pack described above, within the scope of the present invention, include using bottles of rectangular or circular outline in plan; using three or more bottles with tie plates extending between each inter-neck gap; using a self-adhesive strip material other than tape - for example cardboard or like less flexible material; and a multiple pack in which the first tie means consists of a removable band or cord.
