Description
DEVICE FOR FINELY ADJUSTING POSITION
OF AUDIO HEAD OF VIDEO TAPE RECORDER
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION 1) Field of the Invention
This invention relates to a device for finely adjusting the position of an audio head of a video tape recorder with respect to a rotary head cylinder.
2) DescriPt~on o the Prior Art A head adjusting device for a video tape recorder wherein the vertical position of a head is adjusted by means of a vertical position adjusting nut and the horizontal position of the head is adjusted by means of a horizontal position adjusting tapered nut is already known and disclosed, for example, in Japanese Patent
Publication No. 62-13221.
A tapered nut in such head adjusting device requires a plurality of machining steps for formation of a tapered face and for formation of a groove in an upper wall thereof. Accordingly, there is a drawback that it requires a high cost.
SUMMARY OFTHE INVENTION
It is an object of the present invention to provide a device for finely adjusting the position of an audio head of a video tape recorder which facilitates fine adjustment of the position of an audio head without using a part which is difficult to manufacture.
In order to attain the object described above, according to one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for finely adjusting the position of an audio head of a vide tape recorder which includes a main base plate, a support shaft mounted uprightly on the main base plate and having a threaded portion at an end portion thereof remote from the main base plate, a head mounting plate supported for up and down movement on and for pivotal motion around the support shaft and carrying the audio head thereon, a resilient member for biasing the head mounting plate in an axial direction of and in a circumferential direction around the support shaft, a vertical position adjusting nut screwed on the threaded portion of the support shaft for defining the vertical position of the head mounting plate against the biasing force of the resilient member, and a horizontal position adjusting mechanism for defining the horizontal position of the head mounting plate against the biasing force of the resilient member, characterized in that the horizontal position adjusting mechanism includes a stopper element provided on one of the main base plate and the head mounting plate in an inclined relationship to the support shaft, and a horizontal position adjusting screw screwed in the other of the main base plate and the head mounting plate in a parallel relationship to the support shaft, and that either a head portion or an end portion of the horizontal position adjusting screw is contacted directly or indirectly with the stopper element under the circumferential biasing force of the resilient member so that the horizontal position of the head mounting plate around the support shaft may be adjusted by turning the horizontal position adjusting screw.
With the device, the head or the end of the horizontal position adjusting screw is normally held in direct or indirect contact with the stopper element under the circumferential biasing force of the resilient member. Accordingly, if the horizontal position adjusting screw is turned in one or the other direction, the head or the end of the horizontal position adjusting screw slides on the inclined stopper element whereupon the head mounting plate is pivoted around the support shaft, thereby achieving fine adjustment of the positional relationship between a rotary head cylinder and the audio head of the video tape recorder.
The device of the present invention thus eliminates use of such a tapered nut which is difficult to produce as is employed in a conventional adjusting device. Accordingly, the device can be produced at a reduced cost. Besides, the device facilitates fine adjustment of the position of the audio head.
According to another aspect of the present invention, there is provided a device for finely adjusting the position of an audio head of a vide tape recorder which includes a main base plate, a support shaft mounted uprightly on the main base plate and having a threaded portion at an end portion thereof remote from the main base plate, a head mounting plate supported for up and down movement on and for pivotal motion around the support shaft and carrying the audio head thereon, a resilient member for biasing the head mounting plate in an axial direction of and in a circumferential direction around the support shaft, a vertical position adjusting nut screwed on the threaded portion of the support shaft for defining the vertical position of the head mounting plate against the biasing force of the resilient member, and a horizontal position adjusting mechanism for defining the horizontal position of the head mounting plate against the biasing force of the resilient member, characterized in that the horizontal position adjusting mechanism includes a stopper element provided on the head mounting plate in an inclined relationship to the support shaft, a bolt secured uprightly to the main base plate in a parallel relationship to the support shaft, and a horizontal position adjusting nut screwed on the bolt and held in contact with the stopper element under the circumferential biasing force of the resilient member so that the horizontal position of the head mounting plate around the support shaft may be adjusted by turning the horizontal adjusting nut.
With the device, the horizontal position adjusting nut is normally held in contact with the stopper element under the circumferential biasing force of the resilient member. Accordingly, if the horizontal position adjusting nut is turned in one or the other direction, it slides on the inclined stopper element whereupon the head mounting plate is pivoted around the support shaft, thereby achieving fine adjustment of the positional relationship between a rotary head cylinder and the audio head of the video tape recorder.
The device is advantageous, in addition to the advantages of the invention described above, in that since the bolt on which the horizontal position adjusting nut is screwed is secured to the main base plate, the position of the same with respect to the stopper element only depends upon the position of the same on the bolt, which assures more accurate adjustment of the position of the audio head.
Specific embodiments of the present invention will now be described in detail by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings in which like reference characters designate like or corresponding parts through the several views.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE ILLUSTRATED EMBODIMENTS
Referring first to FIGS. 1 and 2, there is shown a device for finely adjusting the position of an audio head of a video tape recorder according to a first preferred embodiment of the present invention. The device shown includes a main base plate 1, and a support shaft 3 secured to and extending vertically upwardly from the main base plate 1. The support shaft 3 is threaded at an upper end portion 2 thereof. A head mounting plate 4 is supported for up and down movement on and for pivotal motion around the support shaft 3 by way of a sleeve 4a secured to the head mounting plate 4 and fitted on the support shaft 3. An audio head 5 is mounted on a support plate Sa secured to an upper face of the head mounting plate 4 such that azimuth adjustment thereof may be made by means of an azimuth adjusting screw 6.The head mounting plate 4 is normally biased in an axially upward direction along and also in a predetermined circumferential direction (counterclockwise direction in FIG. 1) around the support shaft 3 by a resilient member 7 in the form of a torsion coil spring located below the head mounting plate 4. The spring 7 has an intermediate coiled portion 7a loosely fitted around the support shaft 3, and one end portion 7b of the spring 7 is held in engagement with a spring arresting portion 8 in the form of a bent lug of the head mounting plate 4 while the other end portion 7c of the spring 7 is held in engagement with an outer periphery of a screw seat 13 of a horizontal position adjusting mechanism 10 which will be hereinafter described.
A vertical position adjusting nut 9 is screwed on the threaded portion 2 of the support shaft 3 for abutting engagement with the top end of the sleeve 4a to limit axially upward movement of the head mounting plate 4 against biasing force of the spring 7. To the contrary, pivotal motion of the head mounting plate 4 in the predetermined circumferential direction by the resilient force of the spring 7 is limited by the horizontal position adjusting mechanism 10.
The horizontal position adjusting mechanism 10 includes a stopper element 11 and a horizontal position adjusting screw 12. The stopper element 11 is formed as a bent lug of the head mounting plate 4 which is bent obliquely downwardly from an end portion of the head mounting plate 4 with a predetermined inclination with respect to the support shaft 3. Meanwhile, the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is formed as a headed bolt having a threaded portion 12a screwed in a threaded hole 13a of the screw seat 13 which is in turn formed as a short cylinder secured to the main base plate 1. A collar 12c having a significantly greater outer diameter than a head 12b of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is loosely fitted on a portion below the head 12b of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12.The head 12b of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is normally held in contact with the stopper element 11 with the collar 12c interposed therebetween. If the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is turned to move toward or from the screw seat 13, the position at which the head 12b of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12, or more particularly an outer periphery of the collar 12c, engages with the stopper element 11 is varied because the stopper element 11 is inclined with respect to the support shaft 3 and also to the horizontal position adjusting screw 12, thereby adjusting the limit position of the head mounting plate 4 in the predetermined circumferential direction.
Fine adjustment of the vertical position of the audio head 5 is effected by adjustment of the vertical position adjusting nut 9. In particular, since the head mounting plate 4 is normally biased axially upwardly in
FIG. 2 by the spring 7, if the vertical position adjusting nut 9 is tightened or turned to move downwardly along the support shaft 3, then the head mounting plate 4 is moved down along the support shaft 3 against the axial upward biasing force of the spring 7 by the vertical position adjusting nut 9. On the contrary, if the vertical position adjusting nut 9 is loosened or turned to move upwardly along the support shaft 3, then the head mounting plate 4 is allowed to be moved axially upwardly along the support shaft 3 by the axial upward biasing force of the spring 7. The vertical position of the audio head 5 is thus adjusted by way of the head mounting plate 4.
Fine adjustment of the horizontal position of the audio head 5 is effected by adjustment of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12. In particular, since the head mounting plate 4 is normally biased to pivot in the counterclockwise direction in FIG. 1 by the spring 7, if the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is tightened or turned to move the collar 12c axially downwardly together therewith, then the collar 12c slides downwardly on the inclined stopper element 11 whereupon the head mounting plate 4 is pivoted in the clockwise direction in FIG. 1 around the support shaft 3 against the counterclockwise biasing force of the spring 7 by a component of force which acts between the collar 12c and the stopper face 11.On the contrary, if the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is loosened or turned to move axially upwardly, then the collar 12c slides upwardly on the inclined stopper element 11 whereupon the head mounting plate 4 is allowed to be pivoted in the counterclockwise direction in FIG. 1 around the support shaft 3 by the counterclockwise biasing force of the spring 7. The horizontal position of the audio head 5 is thus adjusted by way of the head mounting plate 4.
It is to be noted that while in the embodiment of
FIGS. 1 and 2 the collar 12c fitted on the portion below the head 12b of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is held in contact with the stopper element 11, it may otherwise be omitted and instead the head 12b of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 may be held in direct contact with the stopper elementll. Meanwhile, in order to assure smooth sliding movement of the collar 12c on the stopper element 11, preferably the lower circumferential edge of the collar 12 should be rounded or chamfered.
Referring now to FIGS. 3 and 4, there is shown a device for finely adjusting the position of an audio head of a video tape recorder according to a second preferred embodiment of the present invention. The device is generally similar in construction to the device of the first embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 but is different in that a stopper element 11 is provided on a main base plate 1 while a horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is provided on a head mounting plate 4, and an end 7c of a torsion coil spring 7 is normally held in engagement with a spring arresting portion 14 in the form of a bent lug provided on the main base plate 1. In particular, a threaded portion 12a of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is screwed in a threaded hole 13a of a screw seat 13 secured to the head mounting plate 4.Meanwhile, the stopper element 11 is formed as a bent lug of the main base plate 1 at such a location that it is normally contacted by a lower end 12d of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 under biasing force of the spring 7.
If the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is tightened or turned to move axially downwardly relative to the screw seat 13, the lower end thereof slides downwardly along the inclined stopper element 11 whereupon the head mounting plate 4 is pivoted in the clockwise direction in FIG. 3 against the counterclockwise biasing force of the spring 7 by a component of force which acts between the lower end 12d of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 and the stopper element 11. On the contrary, if the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 is loosened or turned to move axially upwardly relative to the screw seat 13, then the lower end thereof slides upwardly along the inclined stopper element 11 whereupon the head mounting plate 4 is pivoted in the counterclockwise direction in
FIG. 3 by the counterclockwise biasing force of the spring 7.Accordingly, also in the case of the present embodiment, the horizontal position of the audio head 5 can be adjusted by turning the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 in the clockwise or counterclockwise direction. It is to be noted that the circumferential edge of the lower end 12d of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 should be rounded or chamfered in order to assure smooth sliding movement of the lower end 12 of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 on the stopper element 11.
Referring now to FIGS. 5 and 6, there is shown a device for finely adjusting the position of an audio head of a video tape recorder according to a third preferred embodiment of the present invention. The device is generally similar in construction to the device of the first embodiment shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 but is different in that a bolt 15 is securely mounted on a main base plate 1 and extends uprightly in parallel to a support shaft 3 and a horizontal position adjusting nut 16 having a slit 16a formed at the top thereof for receiving a tool therein as shown in FIG. 6 is screwed on a threaded portion 15a of the bolt 1D such that it may normally contact with a stopper element 11 formed as a bent lug on a head mounting plate 4 under biasing force of a torsion coil spring 7.
If the horizontal position adjusting nut 16 is tightened or turned to move axially downwardly relative to the bolt 15, a lower outer circumferential edge 16b thereof slides downwardly along the inclined stopper element 11 whereupon the head mounting plate 4 is pivoted in one circumferential direction against biasing force of the spring 7 by a component of force which acts between the horizontal position adjusting nut 16 and the stopper element 11. On the contrary, if the horizontal position adjusting nut 16 is loosened or turned to move axially upwardly relative to the bolt 15, then it slides upwardly along the inclined stopper element 11 whereupon the head mounting plate 4 is pivoted in the other direction by the biasing force of the spring 7.
Accordingly, the horizontal position of the audio head 5 is adjusted by turning the horizontal adjusting nut 16 in the clockwise or counterclockwise direction. It is to be noted that the lower circumferential edge 16b is either rounded or chamfered in order to assure smooth sliding movement of the same on the stopper element 11.
Comparing with the devices shown in FIGS. 1 and 2 and FIGS. 3 and 4, the device of the embodiment shown in
FIGS. 5 and 6 is advantageous in that more accurate adjustment of the position of the audio head is attained. In particular, in the devices shown in
FIGS. 1 to 4, the horizontal position of the audio head 5 is adjusted by turning the horizontal position adjusting screw 12. The horizontal position adjusting screw 12, however, engages at a portion thereof spaced by a significantly great distance from the threaded portion 12a thereof at which it is mounted on the main base plate 1 or the head mounting plate 4. Accordingly, the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 must be formed with a high degree of accuracy free from distortion. Otherwise, turning of the horizontal position adjusting screw 12 may move the threaded portion 12a laterally by an unexpectedly great or small distance, which will disable fine adjustment of the horizontal position of the audio head 5. To the contrary, with the device shown in FIGS. 5 and 6, since the bolt is secured to the main base plate and the horizontal position adjusting nut is screwed on the fixed bolt, the horizontal position of the audio head only depends upon the position of the horizontal position adjusting nut on the bolt, which assures accurate positioning of the audio head.
