Abstract

A bookbinding assembly method embodying a template has dry adhesive casing material 1 of differing dimensions adhered to front panel 2, back panel 3 and spine panel 4 of corresponding dimensions. Dry adhesive end papers 5 are adhered to front panel 2 and back panel 3 and to the text hull of a book 6 to complete the case and form a hinge. <IMAGE>

Description

HARDBACK BOOKBINDING ASSEMBLY TECHNIQUE This invention relates to a dry adhesive assembly method for hardback bookbinding.
Traditional wet adhesive case binding is a costly and time consuming part of hardback book production. The technique requires considerable skill for manual assembly, and capital investment for mechanical assembly. A dry adhesive hardback bookbinding method, incorporating a hinge modification and embodying a template for accurate construction, requires little skill or capital investment, is stronger, and is easier to produce.
According to the present invention, there is provided apparatus embodying a template for assembling dry adhesive casing material of differing dimensions and front, back and spine panels of corresponding dimensions to the text hull of a book, with dry adhesive end papers forming a hinge.
The assembly of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing in which: Figure 1 is a diagrammatic view of components embodying the invention for assembling dry adhesive cases for a hardback book.
Figure 2 is a perspective view of a case formed for a hardback book using the components in Fig 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of dry adhesive end papers attached to a text hull to complete the case and form the modified hinges of a hardback book.
Referring to the drawing, the kit comprising casing material 1, front panel 2, back panel 3, and spine panel 4 as shown in Fig 1 is assembled into a case for a hardback book as shown in Fig 2.
The assembled case as shown in Fig 2 is secured to the text hull of a book 6 with dry adhesive end papers 5 as shown in Fig 3.

Claims (18)

1 A hardback bookbinding assembly method embodying a template and comprising dry adhesive casing material of differing dimensions and front, back and spine panels of corresponding dimensions attacked to the text hull of a book, with dry adhesive end papers completing the case and forming a hinge.
2 A hardback bookbinding assembly method as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the spine panel is rigid to form a square backing.
3 A hardback bookbinding assembly method as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the spine panel is omitted to produce a rounded backina.
4 A hardback bookbirdina assembly method as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the spine is a flexible panel to for a rounded backing.
5 A hardback bookbinding assembly method 8S claimed in Claims 1 to 4 wherein the panels are transparent.
6 A hardback bookbindina assembly method as claimed in Claim 1 to 5 wherein the casing material is transparent.
7 A hardback bookbindina assemblv method as claimed in Claims 1 to 6 wherein the casing material is imprinted.
8 A hardback bookbinding assembly method as claimed in Claims 1 to 7 wherein the casing material is creased.
9 A hardback bookbinding assembly method as claimed in Claims 1 to 8 wherein the end papers are adhered partially to the panels and the text hull of a book.
10 A hardback bookbinding assembly method as claimed in Claims 1 to 8 wherein the end papers are adhered totally to the panels and the text hull of a book.
11 A hardback bookbinding assembly method as claimed in Claims 1 to 10 wherein the dry adhesive release material is a guide for construction.
12 A hardback bookbinding assembly method as claimed in Claims 1 to 11 wherein dry adhesive panels are used.
