Abstract

A plurality of inner liner sheets 12, 112, 212 each have had an insulation layer 14, 114 and 214 formed thereon and bonded thereto and are secured end to end in position on a building. An outer liner sheet 16 is then located and fixed in position over the previously exposed surfaces of the insulation layers. <IMAGE>

Description

IMPROVEMENTS IN, OR RELATING TO PANELS.
The present invention relates to panels, panel assemblies and a method of forming a panel. The invention Is particularly, although not exclusively, related to the insulation cladding of the exterior of bulldings with such panels.
In a known method of cladding a building with insulation panels, composite panels are provided with first and second opposed spaced sheets between which Is located an insulation layer which is formed between the sheets and bonded thereto. The sheets are co-extensive with the Insulation layer. The panel provides good insulation to a building and condensation is largely prevented from forming within the panels between the Insulation layer and the sheets as the insulation layer is bonded to those sheets and there is little or no space between the insulation layer and the sheets. However, the machinery needed to make such composite panels is extremely expensive and it is necessary to have Joints on the exterior of the building between each panel.
It is an obJect of the present invention to attempt to overcome at least some of the disadvantages of prior panels.
According to one aspect of the present invention a panel includes a first liner sheet extending over one surface of an insulation layer, which insulation has been formed on the first liner sheet with substantial ly the complete side of the opposed surface of the insulation layer having been subsequently covered with a second liner sheet.
The second liner sheet may be bonded or adhered or fixed relative to the insulation layer.
The second liner sheet may extend at least partlally over a plurality of panels to at least partially cover a plurality of previously exposed opposed surfaces of insulation layers of different panels.
The second Liner sheet may be located over opposed surfaces of the or each Insulation layers after the or each panel has been located in position.
According to another aspect of the present invention a method of forming a panel comprises forming an insulation layer on one surface of a first liner sheet and subsequently at least partlally covering the opposed surface of the insulation layer with a second liner sheet. The method may comprise coverlng the opposed surface of the insulation layer with the second liner sheet after the first liner sheet and insulation layer have been located In position. The method may comprise locating a plurality of panels formed by the method In position and subsequently covering at least a part of the opposed surfaces of Insulation layer from different panels with a second liner sheet.
According to another aspect of the present invention a panel assembly includes a plurallty of panels each comprising a substantially co-extensive first liner sheet on one side of that insulation layer with a second liner sheet being located on the other side of the Insulation layers of the panels, the second liner sheet extending at least partially over a plurality of the opposed exposed surfaces of the insulation layers of different panels.
The present Invention may be carried Into practice in various ways, but one embodiment will now be described, by way of example, and with reference to the accompanying drawing which is a perspective end view of a panel assembly 10.
The panel assembly Includes an inner liner sheet 12, for instance of coated galvanised steel, onto which an insulation layer 14 has been formed and bonded thereto. A plurality of panels each made up of coextensive liner sheets and insulation layers 12, 14; 112, 114 and 212, 214 have each been arranged end to end and secured in position on a building. An outer liner sheet 16 is then located and fixed in position over the previously exposed surfaces 18 of the insulation layers 14, 114 and 214.
The panels comprising the inner liner sheet 12 and insulation layer 14 are of a standard relatively small size which can be easily manoeuvred and secured in position on the outside of a building, and the outer liner sheet 16 covers each of the panels without a Joint appearing between any of the panels on that side. This reduces problems which may tend to arise between the Jolnts at the outer Loner sheet, for instance due to raln or condensation, and enables the buy idling to present a more pleasing appearance.However, the panels are able to take additional advantage of the feature of the insulation layer 14, 114 or 214 being bonded directly to the Inner liner sheets 12, 112 or 212 which also prevents, or severely restricts the tendency of any condensation to form between the Insulation layers and the Inner liner sheets.
The outer liner sheet 16 may be adhered, bonded or secured, or any combination thereof to the Co- extensive surface of the insulation layers. The outer liner sheet may be of coated steel.
Although the above described embodiment has been Illustrated with a single outer liner sheet covering three different insulation layers, It will be appreciated that the outer Liner sheet may cover more or less insulation layers. For instance, If the insulation layers each have a length of 6 feet, an outer liner sheet of 24 feet would be able to cover four such insulation sheets. Similarly, If the Insulation layers are of 12 foot length then an outer liner sheet of 24 feet in length woul.d be able to cover two such insulation layers.
Alternatively, insulation layers of 6 feet or 12 feet may be arranged to be covered by an outer Loner sheet of 40 foot In length.

Claims (7)

1. A panel including a first liner sheet extending over one surface of an insulation layer, which insulation layer has been formed on the first liner sheet with substantially the complete side of the opposed surface of the insulation layer having been subsequently covered with the liner sheet.
2. A panel as claimed in Claim 1 in which a second liner sheet is bonded to the insulation layer.
3. A panel as claimed in any preceding claim in which the second liner sheet is adhered to the insulation layer.
4. A panel as claimed in any preceding claim in which the second liner sheet is fixed relative to the insulation layer.
5. A panel as claimed in any preceding claim including a plurality of first liner sheets extending over one surface of insulation layers, which insulation layers have been formed on the first liner sheets with a second liner sheet extending at least partially over the opposed surfaces of the insulation layers.
6. A panel as claimed in any preceding claim in which the second liner sheet is located over the or each opposed surface of the insulation layer or layers after the or each first liner sheet and insulation layer have been located in position.
7. A panel substantially as herein described with reference to, and as shown in the accompanying drawing.

8. A method of forming a panel comprising forming an insulation layer on one surface of a first liner sheet and subsequently at least partially covering the opposed surface of the insulation layer with a second liner sheet.
9. A method as claimed In Clalm 8 comprising covering the opposed surface of the insulation layer with the second liner sheet after the first I I ner sheet and insulation layer have been located in position.
10. A method as claimed in Claim 8 or Claim 9 comprising locating a plurallty of first liner sheets and insulation layers in position and subsequently covering at least part of the opposed surfaces of the insulation layers from different first I iner sheets with a second liner sheet.
11. A method of forming a panel substantially as herein described with reference to, and as shown in the accompanying drawings.
12. A panel as claimed in any of Clalms 1 to 7 when formed by a method as claimed in any of Claims 8 to 11.

A panel Including a first liner sheet extending over one surface of an insulation layer, which insulation layer has been formed on the first liner sheet with substantlally the complete side of the opposed surface of the insulation layer having been subsequently covered with a second liner sheet.
2. A panel as claimed In Claim 1 In which the second liner sheet Is bonded to the Insulation layer.
3. A panel as claimed in any preceding claim in which the second liner sheet is adhered to the insulation layer.
4. A panel as claimed in any preceding claim in which the second liner sheet Is fixed relative to the insulation layer.

A panel as claimed in any preceding claim Including a plurality of first liner sheets extending over one surface of insulation layers, which Insulation layers have been formed on the first liner sheets with a second liner sheet extending at least partlally over the opposed surfaces of the insulation layers.
6. A panel as claimed In any preceding claim in which the second liner sheet is located over the or each opposed surface of the insulation layer or layers after the or each first liner sheet and Insulation layer have been located in position.
