Abstract
A heel comprises a base portion 10 with a shank 12 projecting therefrom. The shank 12 has a distal portion 14 which tapers downward. A sleeve 16 of plastics material metallized on the outside fits over the distal portion 14. This gives a contrasting appearance to the remainder. <IMAGE>
Description
TITLE: LADIES SHOE HEELS
DESCRIPTION
The invention relates to ladies shoe heels of a construction such as to give an appearance of being made of more than one material, for example leather and metal, or a two-tone finish.
The invention provides a ladies shoe heel comprising a base portion of plastics material with a shank projecting therefrom, the shank having a distal portion of smaller transverse dimensions than the remainder, a sleeve of plastics material for fitting over the said distal portion, and a top piece for securing the sleeve in position on the shank. The sleeve may be metallized, painted or covered so as to give a contrasting appearance from the remainder, and being of plastics material is of low cost and light weight.
Both the base portion and the sleeve being of plastics material makes it easy to automate the production of heels according to the invention.
The base portion and sleeve may each separately be moulded from polystyrene, ABS or polypropylene, for example. The base may have a reinforcement rod or tube integrally moulded therein, or may be thicker so as not to require reinforcement. The distal portion and sleeve may taper and be of circular, D-shaped or any desired cross-section. The sleeve may be flush or stand proud at the front and/or side of the shank, and either or both may be covered with fabric, leather or suede, which may extend from the bottom of the shoe onto the shank. The top piece may comprise a steel pin, optionally with polyurethane moulded thereon.
Ladies shoe heels according to the invention may be sold in an assembled condition, or as a kit of parts for assembly before manufacture into shoes.
Drawings
Figure 1 is a side view of a ladies shoe heel according to the invention with concealed parts shown in broken lines;
Figure 2 shows the base portion and shank of the heel in
Figure 1; and
Figure 3 shows the corresponding sleeve.
In the drawings, the heel comprises a base portion 10 of polystyrene with a shank 12 projecting therefrom. The shank 12 has a distal portion 14 which tapers downward and is of smaller cross-section but the same general shape as the remainder of the shank 12. A sleeve 16 of polystyrene, metallized on the outside, fits over the distal portion 14.
A top piece 18 secures the sleeve 16 in position on the shank 12. The heel has a reinforcement tube of steel 20 integrally moulded therein.
Claims (5)
1. A ladies shoe heel comprising a base portion of plastics material with a shank projecting therefrom, the shank having a distal portion of smaller transverse dimensions than the remainder, a sleeve of plastics material for fitting over the said distal portion, and a top piece for securing the sleeve in position on the shank.
2. A heel according to claim 1 in which the sleeve is metallized, painted or covered so as to give a contrasting appearance from the remainder.
3. A heel according to claim 1 and claim 2 in which the base has a reinforcement rod or tube integrally moulded therein.
4. A heel according to any preceding claim in which the distal portion and sleeve are of circular or D-shaped cross-section.
5. A ladies shoe heel as herein described with reference to the drawings.
