Abstract
The brakes of a vehicle are applied automatically when an ignition switch 9 is switched off, thereby energising a solenoid or electric motor 5 which acts on a T-shaped master cylinder input rod 4. A pedal operated member 6 also acts on the input rod 4. <IMAGE>
Description
AUMOMATIO HAND BRAKE.
This invention relates to a electric motor for@ing a piston into -re master slave cylinder ar- for@ing brake fluid inside to be compressed locking al brakes.
Fig I.The master slave cylinder is found under the bonnet rinted to the bodywork ig 2.The electric motor is mounted behind master slave cylinder .The piston arm which is part of the motor and connected to the master slave a is a free pin(this in tuurn allows the brake renal to be used as normal when driving).
Fig 3.The motor is wired to a direct current wire; the wire travels to the key ingnition barrerand the earth wire is wired to the bodywork.
When the ingnition is turned off a electric current passes through the electric motor in so doing forces a piston to force the piston arm on to the master slave cylinder forcing brake fluid t o be compressed locking all brakes.
Fig 4.To turn off the automatic hand brake the key is placed into the ingnition barrel and turned once this will break the contact and cancel the direct current feeding the power to the electri otor.
When this happens the piston inside the motor is extracted this in turn allows the aster slave cylinder piston arm to release the brake pressure eo that the brakes are unlocked. When the key in-
-gnition is turned on normal driving can be done wig 5.It is noted that the only alteration beside the electric motor is that the master slave cylinder piston arm as a double head this allows the brake to be used as normal and when the automatic brave is used it to uses the same pin but only when the ingnition is turned off.

Claims (1)
- The automatic brake works on the princible that the electric water (i.e.a selioide)is mounted benind the @aster cylinder ,the taster @ linder as no change to it what so ever, but the piston arm which is connected to the rod which is part of the brake pedeal has a double head this i@ turn allows the electric motors piston arm to connect to the master cylinder pist@n arm.The electric motors piston arm is a free pin this allows the brake to be used as normal w@er driving. Now when the ingnition is turned 0-7 an electrical current switchs on the electric motor(Note the electric motor is earthed to tne body work and the direct current wire is se- to the ingnition).THis electrical cur- @rent for@es the piston arm un against the master cylinder piston arm in so doing forcing the brake fluid to be compressed so locking all brakes. When the ingnition is turned ON the electrical current is cancelled allowin the electric motor piston arm to be forced back by the master cylinder piston arm in so doin decompressing the brake fluid allowing the brakes to be free.At this time normal driving or rideing can e resumed.Note the electric motors dirrect current wire is fussed for saftv reason. Also the on' change beside the electric motor is that the master cylinder piston arm as a souble head this is to let the brake to be used as normal.
