Description
z is 2217373-, IMPROVED WINDOW The present invention relates to an
improved sliding pane window, particularly a novel large window, in which the improvements are intended to give maximum comfort, to the occupants avoiding leakage of warm air and ensuring a tightly sealed closure of sliding panes in the frame which is fixed in the wall of the building.
C= The structural and constituent characteristics of the invention differ considerably from all the currently, known types of large window.
The current technique used in the manufacture of large windows with sliding panes envisages the provision of guide rails which project from the frame, on which slide the panes which, for the purpose, are provided with matching channels, and in the position of closure, the extreme edges of the panes simply bear against the fixed frame without achieving a hermetic seal, the bottom part of the frame including apertures which serve as water drainage holes, representing clearances with the sliding panes which prevent a tight sealing closure.
The improved window which is the object of the present invention eliminates all the existing difficulties with this type of window by ensuring total sealing tightness when the sliding panes are closed, for which purpose there is provided a continuous projecting flange in the middle of the fixed frame and on which is mounted a flexible weather strip which provides the hermetic closure with the 2 sliding panes when the window is closed, the lateral -upright members of the frame including coupled members which have an inclined plane to engage a rounded lateral edge of each sliding pane in order to establish the closure, the inclined plane on the coupled end members pushing the panes against the flexible weather strip and ensuring a tight sealing closure.
Likewise in the centre of the horizontal member of the fixed frame there is a wedge-shaped piece which in the 10 position of closure pushes the panes against the weather strip, both panes carrying on their facing surfaces mutual anchorage members which when they engage, ensure that the t-- 3 C= contiguous paRe'likewise presses against the flexible weather strip so that a totally tight sealing closure is is ensured over the entire surface of the window.
For better understanding of the general characteristics of the invention, drawings are.attached which show a preferred practical embodiment of the improved window, it being pointed out that by reason of the eminently informative nature of the drawings in question, the figures drawn thereon must be viewed in their widest sense and not as implying any limitation.
As will be specified hereinafter, the accompanying drawings show:
Fig. 1 a horizontal section in plan drawn through a window SO .1 according to the invention, the window having sliding panes in the open position, no pressure of any kind being applied against the central flexible weather strip.
Fig. 2 shows the same plan view as Fig. 1 but with the sliding panes closed, their rounded ends having pressure applied to them by members mounted on the sides of the frame and in an inclined plane, so that they are compelled to move towards the centre to achieve a sealing tight closure against the central flexible weather strip, there also being a wedge-shaped member on the horizontal portions of the frame so that the sealing tightness is uniform over the entire periphery of the window, the displaceable panes having on their facing surfaces mutual anchoring members which, when the panes are closed, compel them to bear is against the flexible central weather strip.
Fig. 3 is a cross-section through the lateral upright members of the frame, with a central flange for the flexible weather strip, and including a recess for fitment of the outer supporting members of the sliding panes.
Fig. 4 is a cross-section through the top member of the window frame with the guides or rails for displacement of the panes and the central flange for fitting the flexible weather strip.
k- Fig. 5 is a cross-section through the bottom of the window frame with the guides or rails for displacement of the panes and the central flange which carries the flexible weather strip, the drawing showing the disposition of a drain channel independent of the hermetic closure which is achieved peripherally by the central flexible weather strip.
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the.members to be mounted on the lateral portions of the frame, the member including an inclined surface by which it exerts pressure on the displaceable panes when they are in the closed position, pressing them against the central flexible weather strip in order to obtain a tight sealing closure.
C5 is Fig. 7 shows end and plan views of the wedge mounted in the centre of 'the horizontal members of the window frame which, when the sliding panes are closed, pushes them against the central flexible weather strip, pressing on the projecting and rounded edge of the displaceable panes.
Fig 8 is a perspective view of an end member mounted on the inner surfaces of the displaceable panes of the window and comprising a projecting surface in the inclined position so that when the panes are closed, the surfaces mutually grip and clamp, exerting a mutual traction and fitting over the central weather strip, as can be seen in Fig. 2.
With reference to the drawings, reference numeral 1 denotes the lateral members of a window frame having also 11 I- an upper member 2 and a horizontal bottom member 3.
The members (1,2,3) each have a sectional profile including in the centre of their width and projecting towards the interior of the window, a projecting flange with a harpoon-shaped tip 5 which engages a flexible weather striD 6, so achieving a tight sealing closure of the window.
The sectional profile of the lateral members 1 (Fig.
3) includes a IT'-shaped recess 7, to receive a ramp member 8 (Fig. 6) having a matching T-shaped projection - 9; the member 8 including also an inclined surface 10 on which rests in use a rounded edge 11 of the upright profile 12 which constitutes part of the frame of one of the sliding panes mounted on rails 13 rigid with the window frame. When the sliding panes are closed, the inclined surface 10 on the member 8 will press on the rounded edge 11, pushing the sliding pane against the central flexible weather strip 6, so obtaining a tight sealing.
In order that a tight sealing closure is produced around the entire periphery of the profile 12 corresponding to the sliding panes of the window, wedges 14 (Fig. 7) are provided which are mounted by means of the point 15 in the centre of the top member 2 and bottom member 3 of the window frame and in this way, when the panes are closed. the rounded edge 11 of the window pane rests on the corresponding 6 wedge 14 and thereby moves the panes until they rest against the central flexible weather strip 6 in an entirely plane manner.
To establish a connection between the sliding panes 12 when they are in the closed position, there is provided a right-angled member 16 with a dovetailed projection 17 to engage the inner upright member of each of the frames 12 on the sliding panes; the member 16 carrying a housing 18 to accommodate a conventional blade type closure seal 19. The member 16 further includes an inclined projecting member 20, the members 20 of the two window sections acting as engaging and pressing means when the said sliding leaves are closed, as can be seen in Fit. 2, exerting a 'mutual traction which seeks to position the is two panes firmly against the central weather strip 6 so that a totally hermetic seal is assured even if one of the sides of the window does not have the wedge.14.
The horizontal profile 3 corresponding to the bottom of the window includes also an enclosed section 21 which acts as a water drain without in any way affecting tight sealing closure of the window.
Each of the window sections shown in Figs 3-8 may comprise a continuously extruded member cut to length as desired.
It being considered that each and every one of the parts constituting the improved window which is the object C= T 1; 7 - 1
