Abstract
A magnetically-operated clockface for use in vandal resistant signs or displays where opening and/or closing times need to be displayed comprises a steel hour hand whose free pivotal movement is retarded by means of a foam/nylon washer and screw clamp fitted inside a toughened glass or reinforced clear plastics panel. The hand is adjusted by remote control by the use of a small powerful magnet; but it will resist movement by weak magnets or by impact. <IMAGE>
Description
MAGNETICALLY OPERATED CLOCKFACE MECHANISM
The invention consists of a finely balanced steel hour hand fitted with a specially designed central pivot clamp which enables the hand to be precisely adjusted by remote control through toughened glass or reinforced clear plastic with the aid of a small powerful magnet; but will resist any movement by weak magnets or by impact. The purpose being to incorporate these echanisms into vandal resistant signs or displays where opening and/or closing times need to be displayed.
Claims (7)
1. A Magnetically Operated Clockface Mechanism facilitates the easy speedy accurate adjustment of any necessary time display.
2. The simplicity of the clockface design gives instant recognition of the time displayed and the light reflective properties of the clockface dial enable it to show up clearly in the dark when a light is dir ected towards it.
3. The slimness of the whole design enables it to be incorparated into any display panel over 21' (12mm) in depth.
4. The flexibility in the size of the visual display enables it to be incorporated into virtually any size of sign or display panel and be seen clearly from any distance required.
5. The mechanism has been carefully designed to be particularly vandal resistant by having a sheet metal protective covering at the rear and toughened glass, reinforced clear plastic or polycarbonate over the face. The latter being over 200 times stronger than glass.
6. The design incorporates a double air-tight seal which prevents the possiblity of any condensation or discolouring of the clockface.
7. The mechanism is also designed to resist the effect of weak magnets which are available to some school children in some shops, and is unaffected by the accidental or deliberate striking of the sign or display panel in which it is housed.
