Description
This invention relates to a device.
It is well known that squeezing pimples, boils and other festers may cause scars such as acne scars and it is an object of the present invention to provide a device for opening such pimples, boils and other festers.
The present invention provides a device for opening pimples, boils and other festers comprising a nozzle portion adapted to be pressed against the skin to locate around a pimple, boil or other fester, a needle located within the nozzle, and means for advancing the needle out of the nozzle for pricking to open the pimple, boil or other fester.
The device preferably includes a barrel capable of being evacuated and communicating with the nozzle whereby vacuum may be applied whereby to at least in part evacuate the pimple, boil or other fester.
The barrel may be evacuated by being connected to a vacuum pump.
Alternatively, a plunger is located in the barrel and may be pushed into the barrel to displace air therefrom and spring means may be provided to push the plunger out of the barrel to thereby evacuate the plunger.
Preferably, the barrel and plunger are provided with finger grip means to enable the plunger to be moved into and partly out of the barrel.
The device may include spring bias means for biasing the plunger into a position in which it is partly moved out of the barrel and against which bias means the plunger may be moved into the barrel.
Preferably, the needle is adapted to be advanced out of the nozzle by the plunger.
In one instance the needle is attached to the plunger.
In another instance the needle is mounted on a body adapted to be moved by the plunger.
The needle may be spring biased to be normally located within the nozzle.
The needle may be advanced out of the nozzle as aforesaid by the plunger.
A specific embodiment of a device in accordance with this invention will now be described by way of example with the aid of the accompanying drawing in which:
Fig.l is a cross-sectional view of the device;
Fig.2 is a view of one end of the device;
Fig.3 is a view of the other end of the device; and
Fig.4 is a side elevational view of the device.
The device shown in the drawings comprises a barrel 1 within which is located a plunger 2 having a piston portion 3, a shaft 4 and a finger grip end 6.
The barrel 1 has a nozzle 8.
Within the barrel is a needle 21 which is mounted on the piston portion 3.
The barrel has finger grip portions 22.
In use of the device, the plunger 2 will be advanced into the barrel slightly short of the position shown in Fig.1 so that the needle 21 does not project from the nozzle 8.
The nozzle 8 is then brought into contact with skin around a pimple, boil or other fester and the plunger is then further advanced into the barrel 1 to extend the needle 21 from the nozzle 8 as shown in Fig.1 to prick and thereby open the pimple, boil or other fester.
By use of the finger grip portions 6 and 22 the plunger 2 can then be partly retracted out of the barrel 1 and in so doing a partial vacuum will be formed in the barrel which will be applied to the skin to assist in evacuation of the pimple, boil or other fester.
In a modification of the above, the plunger 2 is biased by a spring to be normally substantially withdrawn from the barrel 1 such that it will need to be advanced into the barrel 1 manually against that bias. On release of the plunger 2 the spring bias will partly withdraw the plunger from the barrel 1 to partly evacuate the barrel.
In another modification of the above, the needle 21 is mounted on a body separate from the plunger 2 and is spring biased to be normally retracted within the nozzle. In use, the plunger can act on that body to cause the needle to extend from the nozzle 8.
In another modification of the above, a vacuum pump is used to apply a vacuum to the barrel 1.
Since modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention may be readily effected by persons skilled in the art, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the particular embodiment described, by way of example, hereinabove.
