Description

A control arrangement for an industrial sewing machine The invention relates to a control arrangement for an industrial sewing machine comprising power components and data processing components as well as inputs and outputs in the form of plugs.
Such control arrangements are used for controlling the driving motor for the main shaft of industrial sewing machines and for triggering and controlling accessory functions such as for example thread cutting, possibly as a function of the response of external sensors, such as light barriers.
In order to achieve economy in production, such control arrangements have to be suitable for use on a plurality of different types and makes of industrial sewing machines, the individual machine types being further individualised according to the user by being equipped with accessory devices which, in turn, call for appropriate individualising of the control arrangement.
Already known from German Patent Application No.
P2913937 is a plug connection for circuit boards, so that with such a control arrangement a circuit board can be plugged in, in an interchangeable manner, opportunity for adjustment being available in the plugged-in condition.
The present invention seeks to provide such a control arrangement for an industrial sewing machine that with a maximum of industrial pre-manufacture and circuit board equipment, adaptation to different types of sewing machines and performance requirements with minimal hardware costs presents no problem.
According to the invention, there is provided a control arrangement for an industrial sewing machine comprising power components and data processing components as well as inputs and outputs in the form of plugs, wherein the power components and the associated plugs are disposed in the form of modules on a circuit board and the data processing components are disposed in a modular manner, spatially separated therefrom, on a circuit board.
In this way, it is possible to use one and the same control arrangement, i.e., arrangement of data processing components, for quite different power set-ups, so that a favourably costed installation of the necessary integrated circuitry elements and plugs is possible. Then, the power module can be made up for each particular case, according to application and customer.
The spatial separation of data processing components and power components provided for within the framework of the invention furthermore has the essential advantage that the relatively heat-sensitive data processing components are not adversely affected by the unavoidable development of heat in the power components. Furthermore, this spatial separation ensures maximum protection of the data processing components against interference, combined with minimal electrical output compared with the high switching capacities of the power components. Furthermore, it is possible in this way and without additional structural measures, to lead out the plug connections for the power components and the data processing components at special areas of the outer covering panel, so that a clean separation is also achieved in respect of the plugs which have to be brought in from outside.
It is advantageously envisaged that the power components and the data processing components are in each case disposed on a separate circuit board, the two circuit boards being connectable via a plug connection.
Accordingly, it is possible for the actual control module including the plug connector to be completely independently prefabricated and only connected to whichever is the matching power module at the final assembly stage of the control arrangement. Ideally, the connection is made in such a way that the circuit boards of the power module and control module are disposed adjacent each other in one plane since this ensures good heat dissipation in the case of the power module and minimal heat transference to the control module.
Furthermore, there may be at least one modular circuit board disposed in a second plane for expansion components such as for the stepping motor control, the light barrier amplifier or the general sensory equipment.
It is also a good idea to provide a modular circuit board with serial or parallel inputs and outputs, consideration being in particular also given to the disposition of a modular circuit board for additional inputs or outputs such as low power outputs, sensors inputs and the like.
The circuit board for the data processing components may comprise an EPROM with at least one basic programme for adaptation to peripheral parameters. In this way, it is in particular possible for adaptation to a specific type of sewing machine, this being effected for example by means of a known plug coding with corresponding resistors, i.e, by means of a voltage coding.
In order to modify parameters, it is also possible to provide, in addition to the EPROM, an EEPROM so that the basic programme stored in the EPROM can be consequently adapted.
Preferably, the modular circuit board with serial or parallel inputs and outputs comprises a plug connector arrangement for a serial communication module.
Advantageously there is on the communication module a plug connection arrangement for a second control panel and/or a computer. This plug connection arrangement can be disposed in a plane somewhat below the main connection plug for the control module. While the latter has to be still accessible from outside when the cladding plate is fitted, the former is masked by this panel, along with any plug which may possibly have been inserted.
The plug connection arrangement is ideally a standard interface connector.
For numerous possible applications and in order to avoid reciprocal disturbance, it is desirable for the control inputs and outputs of the communication module to be galvanically de-coupled by means of opto-couplers or the like.
Preferably, a plurality of different serial communications modules (circuit boards) are provided of which at least one comprises a plug connection to a communications software storage unit associated with a control unit.
Furthermore, there is favourably provided a selector arrangement which can be connected to at least one communications module (circuit boards) for the automatic selection of a stored communications software, comprising one fixed and one variable resistor for coding and one voltage window discriminating arrangement or one analogueZdigital converter for recognition.
A preferred embodiment of the invention will now be described, by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, from which features, advantages and details of the invention will be apparent and in which: Fig. 1 is a view of the upper cover plate of the housing of a control arrangement according to the invention; Fig. 2 is a diagrammatic perspective view of the module carrying the data processing components, with a communications module; Fig. 3 is a view of the circuit board with the data processing components and the circuit board with the power components and Fig. 4 is a diagrammatic view showing the construction of a further communications module.
Fig. 3 gives an overall view of the two essential modular circuit boards 1, 2 for the data processing components or power components respectively. Where the embodiment shown in Fig. 3 is concerned, the two circuit boards 1, 2 are constructed as separate spatial portions of a single continuous circuit board 3. Alternatively, a separate construction may be envisaged, the connection being made via plug connectors.
This spatial separation means that the heat dissipating power components 4, of which Fig. 3 shows only a few by way of example, are together with their associated heat dissipating plates 5, disposed relatively far away from the more heat-sensitive data processing components.
Furthermore, this development ensures that the plug connections for the control arrangements such as for example the plug connection 6 for the control panel and an external serial communications module, the plug connection 7 for the position transmitter and the plug connection 9 for an external actuation, e.g. a foot pedal, are on the housing cover plate 10 shown in Fig. 1 where they are kept apart from the plugs 11 to 17 for the external voltage supply and footoperated ventilation, thread cutter, thread wiper, light barriers and signals for raised and lowered positions of the needle, bar tacks extension and depression. In this way, the arrangement of cables emerging from this top cover is kept clear.
As is shown in Fig. 2 in particular, the circuit board 1 for the data processing components comprises a plurality of integrated circuit components 18, of which only one is shown by way of example, together with a coding switch 28.
Together with the components 20 disposed on it, a circuit board 19 disposed above the place of the circuit board 1 constitutes a communications module. Provided on the circuit board 19 is a plug connection arrangement 21, of which the plug contacts lie in a plane above the plane of the circuit board 19 but below the plane of the plug connection 6, so that the plug which is used there for a second control panel and/or computer can easily be inserted or withdrawn when the cover plate 10 is removed while being on the other hand covered while the cover plate 10 is in position. By means of a plug connection 22, it is possible to fit the circuit board 19 onto the circuit board 1.
In the case of the preferred embodiment, a plurality of communications modules are provided. For this purpose, the component 20 shown by way of example in Fig. 2 may be constructed as a plug socket and a corresponding plug/socket can be disposed at the end of the circuit board 19 which is at the back in Fig. 2. A further circuit board 23 can then be plugged into these sockets (component 20) by means of plug connectors 24, and further components may be disposed on it such as for example integrated circuits 25 or basic electrical components 26 such as transistors, resistors, condensers and the like. A plug connection arrangement 27 serves as an interface.
