Description

6 3 9 4 A LITTER BASKET The present invention relates to a litter basket
or a waste paper basket of the type described in the introductory part of claim 1.
Known litter baskets of this type for use in public places have in respect of the emptying operation some disadvantages which should be attended to due to the quite actual risk of infection from thrown away syringes and hypodermic needles., so that it - as seen from a labour enviromental point of view may become more safe to emptying of such litter baskets.
The purpose of the invention is to provide a litter basket of the type mentioned introductory and by means of which the emptying of the contents of the litter baskets may be effected in a safe and simple manner without the personal have to come in contact with the contents of the litter basket container.
The litter basket according to the invention is characterized in that said release mechanism comprising a bottom door meinber being pivotally arranged in relation to the container part, said buttom door member beingconnected with link means extending upwardly to activation means being aranged in a wall portion of the container part, said activation means being adapted to operate said release mechanism from the outside of the container part. In a simple manner it may hereby be obtained a good security for the personal as the contents of the litter basket may be emptied down into a suiteable collecting receptacle without the emptying personal needs to come in contact with or to be exposed to any risk-bearing waste at all.
2 Appropriately, the litter basket according to the invention may be designed such that said link means connected with the bottom door member consist of a first link arm member one end portion of which being pivotally connected with the bottom door member while an opposite end portion of said first link arm member being pivotally connected with a second link arm member, which opposite to said first link arm member being stiffly connected with said activation means in the form of a swivel arranged parallell to the swing axis of the bottom door member in a partition wall and which being guided in an outer wall portion of the container part as said link arm members being placed at one side of the container part between said partition wall and said outer wall portion thereof. Hereby is obtained in a particular simple manner a good and sturdy release mechanism for the bottom door member, said release mechanism furthermore may be placed well protected against the weather and against the contents of waste in the letter basket container part.
The release mechanism of the litter basket according to the invention may preferably be such provided that the distancebetween said swivel and the pivot point with the bottom door member is smaller than the length of said first link arm member so that the pivot point between said first link arm member and said second link arm member ma-y describe an arch of circle with the swivel as centre between an uppermost position corresponding to that the bottom door member is placed on a level with the bottom of the receiver part - and an lowermost position - corresponding to that the bottom door member is placed vertical hanging down with the bottom door of the container part quite open, i.e. corresponding to open and closed position of the bottom door member, respectively.
In a preferred embodiment said first link arm member is shaped with a curved upper end portion so that the pivot point with 3 said second, shorter link arm member may be positioned in an upper deadcenter-position above and behind the swivel as this is preferably arranged abt. the midtle of a narrow side wall portion of the container part and on a level with the pivot point between the opposite end portion of sais first link arm member and the bottom door member.
Preferably, the container part is made with approximate rectangular cross section with rounded corner parties from one piece of an elongated plate wrapping member which at the rear side of the container part forms a vertical, open joint and which at the top side is connected with a funnel-shaped top side part having a central filling-in opening.
The invention Is desribed in more detail in the folowing with reference to the accompanying drawing, in which:- Fig. 1 is a perspective view of an preferred embodiment of a waste paper basket according to the invention, Fig. 2 a plane side view - partly in section - of the wastepaper basket shown in fig. 1 - with the bottom door member or emptying opening opened., while Fig. 3 is a pane side view - partly in section - of the waste paper basket cf. Fig. 1 - seen from the front side - and with closed bottom door member.
The litter basket 2 shown in Figs. 1 - 3 Is produced from galvanized steel plate and consist of a container part 4 made in one piece from a elongated plate wrapping member being bent in the shown shape with a profiled front side 6 and a vertical open joint 8 at the midtle of a rear side 10 as the plate wrapping member at the rear side joint 8 is only connected with an upper, funnel-shaped top side plate member 12 and by 4 means of a central tube piece 14 and of a number of similar tube pieces being connected by welding along the lower end edge at the inner side of the rear side 10 as the tube pieces serves as hinge portions for a bottom door member 16 which in this way is hinge connected to the container part 4 along a lower transverse long side edge thereof as the bottom door member 16 is provided with similar tube pieces 18 being connected by welding to the upper side of the bottom door member 16. The tube pieces 14 and 18 are afterwards mutually connec- ted by means of pivots 20 which after the mounting are secured by deformation of end portions of the tube pieces 14, 18.
The top side funnel-shaped plate member 12, which is connected with the plate wrapping member or the container part 4 by surrounding welding points, is provided with a central filling in opening 22. In a distance from a narrow side wall portion 24 is parrallel thereto arranged a partition wall portion 26 which is secured between the front and rear side port2.ons of the container part 4 by point welding and which has a smaller bight than that of the side wall portion 24. At the midtle of the latter and abt. 314 up the hight thereof is placed anactivation/release mechanism 28 for the bottom door member 16 comprising a horizontal swivel 30 being pivotally arranged in the partition wall portion 26 and projecting outside-through a guiding opening in the narrow side. portion 24. The swivel 30 is stiffly connected with a short link arm member 32. This is opposite to the swivel 30 pivotally connected with a longer link arm member 34 which again is pivotally connected.with the bottom door member 16.
The bottom door member 16 is at a short side provided with an upwardly projecting strut 36 in the form of a piece of flat iron being secured by welding to the top side of the bottom door member 16 and which abt. the midtle thereof is provided with a hinge bore for the pivot-connection with the lower ende of the long link arm member 34. It may be an advantage to have two parallel link arm members 34.
As shown most clearly in Fig. 2 the long link arm member 34 is provided with an upper curved end portion so that the release mechanism - in the position shown with dotted lines corresponding to closed position of the bottom door member 16 - may take in a distinct self-holding "dead-center-position", which is very important, when the swivel 30 and the hinge connection with the bottom door member 16 is placed approximately above each other - abt. at the midtle of the narrow side portion 24.
The swivel 30 consist in the shown embodiment of a UNBRACO- screw which just inside the head is provided with a transverse bore in which is placed a transverse pin cooperating with a transverse recess through a free hole in the ende of the short link arm member 32. Between the long link arm member 34 and the partition wall portion 26 is placed a plastic washer 38 serving both as a distance member and as a friction member as the swivel 30 or the UNBRACO-screw is secured in the partition wall portion 26 by means of a nut 40 which is furthermore fixed to the UNBRACO-screw by means of LOCK-TITE or welding.
The release mechanism including the link arm members 32 and 34' are placed in the interval between the partition wall portion 26 and the narrow side wall 24 of the container part 4, and the swivel 30 or rather the head of the UNBRACO-screw is guided in a free hole in the narrow side wall 24, i.e. that the release mechanism is easily accessible from the outside of the litter basket 2 by means of an usual L-shaped UNBRACO-tool the short end of which is inserted into the head of the UNBRACO-screw for turning the link arm system 32,34 - as shown in Fig. 2 - between the open position of the bottom door member 16 shown with full lines and the postion shown with dotted lines of the closed bottom door member 16, where the link arm system 32,34 furthermore takes in said self-holding "dead-centerposition".
