Description

MULTI-PURPOSE COMB STRUCTURE The present invention relates to a multi-purpose comb structure which is characterised by retractable comb pins and a comb fork, both being slidably received in the comb housing thereof; a mirror, an ear pick and a nail file are also additionally attached on the comb housing for multiple purposes.
One prior comb structure has a plurality of retractable comb pins, which can be erected in use and retracted by means of a slidable push means which is reciprocatingly operated within a particular range.
However, the prior comb structure is mainly intended for ready carriage and employed for combing only, no other functions can be served. For different hair styles or fashions, the prior comb structure is not always properly applicable. Besides, many other tools for making-up are not readily grouped together along the comb, causing inconvenience in carriage.
Therefore, the primary object of the present invention is to provide an improved multi-purpose comb structure which is additionally provided with a retractable comb fork, a mirror, a nail file and a removable ear pick in combination with a retractable comb of the prior art.
The invention provides a multi-purpose comb structure including a first shell, a second shell and a tuning-fork shaped member slidably received in the housing formed by the assembled shells with a plurality of comb pin units pivotably mounted on the slidable tuning-fork shaped member, wherein: an elongate groove is disposed on the second shell at the grip portion thereof; a plurality of guiding studs are evenly disposed at one end side of the second shell; a comb fork having a plurality of elongate prongs which are slidably located in the spaces between guiding studs, and housed in the grip portion of the second shell so that the comb fork can be retractably operated; a mirror mount having a rectangular opening and a peripheral flange which supports a mirror by the periphery thereof;; an elongate recess correspondingly disposed on the same side of the two shells and a nail file disposed in the recess; an elongate channel correspondingly disposed on the two shells respectively on the opposite side to the nail file to form an elongate tunnel in co-operation; an ear-pick removably received in the elongate tunnel.
An embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example and with reference to the accompanying drawings, of which: Figure 1 is an exploded view of a comb structure; Figure 2 is a sectional view showing the operation of the retractable comb fork; Figure 3 is a perspective view showing the arrangement of the ear pick, fingernail file and the comb fork, and the elongated tunnel for receiving the ear pick; and Figure 4 is a diagram showing the step-by-step operation of the comb pins to put the same in an upright position.
Referring to Figure 1, a comb mainly comprises a comb housing having an upper or first shell 30 and a lower or second shell 10 with a tuning-fork shaped member 20 slidably disposed therebetween. The tuning-fork shaped member 20 is provided with two parallel prongs on which are evenly disposed a plurality of notches 21 so that a plurality of corresponding comb pin units 22 having a shaft on which comb pins are transversely fixed are#ble to be mounted on the member 20.
A plurality of holes 31 are disposed on the front half portion of the upper shell 30 with the holes arranged on a number of parallel transverse lines with four holes on one line and five on the next in an alternate manner. The comb pins extend through the holes 31 so that they stand up when the slidable member 20 is pushed forward or laid flat when pulled backward by way of a push button 24 having a pair of symmetrically located lugs 23 on the sides thereof. An oblong opening 34 is disposed on the other half portion of the upper shell 30 with the push button 24 slidably located therein. A pair of first and second notches 35 and 36 are symmetrically disposed on both sides of the oblong opening 34 for locking engagement of the push button 24 when the lugs selectively engage with the notches 35 or 36 in use or non-use condition.
The lower shell 10 has a mirror mount 16, disposed on the front half portion thereof and has a rectangular opening with a peripheral flange for supporting a mirror 40.
A longitudinal elongate groove 12 is disposed on the other half portion thereof. A number of guiding studs 13 are disposed evenly on the rear end side of the lower shell 10 for limiting the sliding movement of a fork member 15 which is retractably housed in the rear half portion of the lower shell 10. A button element 14, having a pair of split lugs 140 and 141 disposed thereon, is removably secured in an aperture 152 of the base end of the fork member 15 and slidably located in the elongate groove so that the fork member 15 can be retractably operated as shown in Figure 2.
On one side of the upper and lower shells 30 and 10, a pair of correspondingly placed elongate recesses 32 and 17 are disposed for the attachment of a nail file 50 to the same side of the comb. The opposite side of the upper and lower shells have a pair of co-operating channels 33 and 18 which form an elongated tunnel when put together, so that an earpick 60 can be received therein.
As shown in Figure 4, the comb pin units 22 are pivotably mounted on the tuning fork shaped member 20 by engagement of the two round protrusions disposed on each end thereof respectively with the corresponding notches 21. The comb pins are then passed through the holes 31 of the upper shell 30. To put the comb pin units 22 in an upright position, the slidable tuning-fork shaped member 20 is pushed forward with the comb pin units pivoted progressively from a flat position to a vertical position along with the continuous movement of the member 20; and at the end of the movement, the lugs 23 will fall into the first notches 35 so to lock the member 20 in place. When the comb pins are intended to be retracted, the push button 24 is pressed with the tuning-fork shaped member 20 pushed backward to an end position whereat the lugs 23 will engage with the second notches 36.
Furthermore, the comb fork 15 is provided with an engaging protrusion 151 disposed respectively on each side and near the end of the comb fork thereof. On each inner side wall of. the grip portion of the lower shell 10, a pair of stop members 11 and 111 are disposed at the two end positions of the movement of the slidable comb fork 15 so that the same can be locked in place when extended or retracted.
The recesses on both the upper and lower shells 30 and 10 are structured to have two inward inclined side surfaces so that the two ends of the nail file 50 having each end one side tapered surface can be firmly located therein.
