Description

1 A PNEUMATIC VEHICLE TYRE 2'"' R 1 4. 1. w A 0., 1 The present invention
relates to a pneumaticvehicle tyre having a radial carcase construction with reinforcing inserts in the form of a belt-like reinforcing inlay of, in particular, metal fabric and/or a fabric covering layer, which consists of cord or filamenting members, which can shrink through the action of heat, laid in a circumferential direction and/or a rubber layer laid radially over the carcase, wherein the rubber mixture consists of an elastomer component ensuring high impermeability to gas.
In pneumatic vehicle tyres of this type, the belt-like reinforcing insert formed of layers of metal fabric is covered by a textile fabric consisting of cord or filamenting members which can contract under the effect of heat. Further coatings which prevent the ingress of moisture- laden air into pneumatic tyres may also be provided. This rubberising is able to ensure satisfactory impermeability to gas. Air and moisture penetrate pneumatic tyres from the exterior and migrate to the layers of reinforcement which frequently include metal members. Air and moisture are prevented from penetrating these layers of reinforcement by means of a known rubber coating in order to protect them against the disadvantageous effects of air and moisture.
The object of the invention is to ensure relatively reduced access by air to the reinforcement and its coatings in pneumatic tyres. This is achieved through the use of an elastomer which has improved impermeability to gas for the purpose and can be used with advantage.
k In accordance with the invention, the object is achieved by the use of an elastomer comprising an epoxidised polyisoprene with at least 20 mol % of oxiran.
By using a modified polyisoprene as the rubber mass each layer of reinforcement or other insert between the 'carcase and the tread surface can be mdde satisfactorily impermeable to gas. Polyisoprene containing oxiran is advantageously used as the rubberising mass for the abovementioned inserts on account of its property of high impermeability to gas. They protect the reinforcing inlays against the possible effects of air and moisture.
The rubberising mass for the inlays can only comprise the epoxidised polyisoprene mentioned. It can however also be formed from the components of a blended rubber mass of natural rubber and epoxidised polyisoprene.
The associated advantages are more particularly described with reference to an example.

When rubberised with the use of epoxidised polyisoprene in an appropriate way the inserts have the advantageous additional property of impermeability to gas as a protection against the effects of moisture of air penetrating from the exterior.

Claims (3)

1. A pneumatic vehicle tyre having a radial carcase construction with reinforcing inserts in the form of a belt-like reinforcing inlay of, in particular, metal fabric andlor a fabric covering layer, which consists of cord or filamenting members, which can shrink through the action of heat, laid in a circumferential direction and/or a rubber layer laid radially over the carcase. wherein the rubber mixture consists of an elastomer component ensuring high impermeability to gas,in which an epoxidised polyisoprene containing- at least 20 mol % of oxiran is used as the elastomer.
2. A pneumatic vehicle tyre as claimed in claim 1, in which the elastomer components comprise at least 20 parts of epoxidised polyisoprene with at least 20 mol % of oxiran and at least 20 parts of natural rubber per 100 parts of rubber and other elastomer components make up the remaining 60 parts per 100 parts of rubber.
